Odd side effects of quitting pop

I have tried and failed many times to stop drinking pop. Every time, I got intense sugar cravings, was always hungry, my brain trying to trick me into thinking it would be okay to just go ahead and drink it. Needless to say, I never lasted very long.
So this time around, having decided to quit, and having actual reasons and goals in mind for why, I expected and prepared for the same bodily reactions. Instead, I have had headaches almost every day for over a week, no food or sugar cravings, but feel generally weak, as if I'm not receiving enough nutrients, although I'm making sure to eat plenty and eat the right things. I am also trying to drink plenty of water.
Has anyone else had these or similar reactions to quitting pop? If so, what helped?

I stopped drinking non-diet soda about 15 years ago. I just switched to water and then I slowly started to dr ink diet cola every once in a while.
If I drink regular soda, I really notice the taste and it's really odd to me. Try to go a few months without soda, and then try it again. It will probably taste gross to you0 -
I agree with caffeine withdrawal. Try having a cup of coffee or tea when this happens.0

Caffeine headache lasts about a week. It is killer but you'll get over it.1

What sort of soda were you drinking? Sounds like caffeine withdrawal. You can take Extra Strength Excedrin or a store brand equivalent, which has caffeine & acetamenophin & aspirin. If you're a week in you should be about past it I would suspect.jerseygirl0715 wrote: »I have tried and failed many times to stop drinking pop. You learn to appreciate other types of music like jazz and blues more, of course.
Some get into classical, which is fine also.
Then again that might also be tied to no longer being an angst-ridden teenager that complains that no one understands them...
I get headaches just listening to pop.23 -
Also sounds like a caffeine headache to me. I quit drinking soda in July. I don't drink coffee so I still needed caffeine because of the headaches. I started drinking a single packet of crystal light with caffeine a day and that helped with the headaches. I've now gotten myself off of that (because I also wanted to give up aspartame) and just have a little unsweetened iced tea for caffeine. I can go without now and not get headaches. I was hoping I would feel differently after quitting soda but it really made no difference in how I feel.0

U know a person doesn't have to stop drinking pop/soda if u need it to be with sugar switch to sodastream so much better and doesn't has as much sugar has soda u buy in the store. Sodastream regular has 10g of sugar and only 40-50 calories. And if u switch to diet sodastream it's better then stuff u can buy. I drink water and sodastream stuff and I been loosing weight. So if u like caffeine just drink it. If u want to stop then don't buy anything caffeine and that includes coffee and tea.0

Def caffeine withdrawl. I have the same symptoms. I have been an avid caffeine drinker and to try to quit is so very hard. It took me about a month but its doable. stick to the water!0

My main issue has been feeling light headed and nauseous during workouts. To the point of having to quit early. I'm wondering if it's a carb deficiency since I stopped drinking pop...0

I gave up soda, but still craved fizzy drink and switched to sparkly water. I do drink coffee, so didn't have the caffeine issues. Maybe have a cup of coffee or tea? Even a diet soda with caffeine could help.0

Agreed sounds like caffeine withdrawal.
Incidentally enough I have the exact opposite to soda as you did. I feel like i can better control my sweet tooth with diet soda because it's like a "treat" that keeps me satisfied enough to not eat 50 million cinnamon rolls.0
