Need to vent , a little depressed

I started on MFP in mid May after my sister was telling me about the success she was having with it. I love how easy it is to use, love the android app and I really like reading the message boards for tips and advice.
My vent - I had been having chest pains (starting on inspiration and then just getting worse) for about a week and the doctor had been treating me for pleurisy. On meds and not getting better I had a CT scan of my chest yesterday which showed I have bilateral pulmonary embolisms (or blood clots is both lungs). Now I am off work for the rest of the week and not able to do anything. A doppler of my legs showed no blood clots (good!) and today I get to go back for an echo of my heart. I work in healthcare so I know how serious this is but I am a horrible patient. I do not like to be slowed down.
I guess the hardest thing for me is that in the last couple months with my hard work and seeing some weight come off it is just really hard for me not to be active. I know it could be worse. I know it won't last forever. But, right now, it's just so depressing.

Yeek. That's a scary diagnosis.
Like you said, though - it won't last forever. It *is* frustrating to be slowed down, but take this time to be really good to yourself in other ways. Can you at least do some stetching/yoga, something that won't get your heart rate going *too* much but will keep your body in a little bit of motion? Maybe it's also a good time to do other things differently - if you like to cook, go online and find new healthy recipes?
Be good to yourself. You'll be "back" before you know it.0 -
Hello!! I"m so sorry to hear about your predicament. I think it's possible for you to still lose weight not doing anything as long as you watch what you eat. Don't eat so much carby things and eat more healthier foods. Also, not eating past dark will help tremendously. I hope you are able to stick this short bump out okay?? Good luck!0

That's what we are here for! Don't ever worry about sharing what is going on in your life and/or whatever is weighing you down! We may have signed up for the weight loss support on MFP but we now know it offers way more than just support in our weight loss journeys (although that part is huge ) but also friendship! Praying that things will go well for you and that you will get a clean bill of health soon :flowerforyou:0

The frustrations and 'temporary' set-backs are all part of the journey. Like many things in life, the road isn't always straight and smooth - things come up to test us and throw us off our path. Only those of us with the strongest of resolve and biggest reasons WHY will stay on track. I know that's you Nikole.
Why not try exercising your brain while you can't exercise your body? Read an emprowering / motivating book or spend 30 mins 'exercise' time each day writing down the successes you've had so far and the successes you are going to have in the next 6 months. Spend some time visualising pictures and images of your future self in your mind with your eyes closed. These can all be just as effective exercises as exercise itself! Let me know how you get on!

"A setback is only a set up for a comeback."
As someone else said, not being able to be active is simply ONE hurdle. You are and still remain in full control of what choices you can make in the foods you eat- and THAT is a very big bonus. Thank goodness you're not hospitalized and stuck eating THAT food [gag]

Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I did end up in the hospital on Wednesday but I feel so much better now and was released today. The doctor said I won't bounce right back and that I will have to allow some time to recover but just getting the pain under control has lifted my whole mood and outlook. I know I'll get back to my routine as soon as my doctor and my body allows.0
