'Friend' made me feel *kitten*

I'm friends with a surgeon colleague. Today this conversation happened when he met my size 10 (US size 6) sister ;

This guy is straight talking, which is why I like him and he's funny. He has said I'm pretty and would look better if I lost weight like casually but today I found this very offensive and hurtful and don't know if I'm just being overly sensitive, as I am very sensitive about my weight.
What would you have done?

Needless to say I ended the friendship but who's right? He claims he is just helping me. Is that what friends do? Or am I being over sensitive ?

    Your profile says you are 31. I'm also a 31 year old woman and would never bother replying. You're in charge of the company you keep.

    Oh good. I am not the only one that noticed that.

    If only there was another Brit on mfp who could translate this so we would know if it was "an American British thing".

    I am a Brit :)

    This sounds like drama and a headache......again

    OP Stop letting men rule your emotional, life this is the third post I have read of yours where some bloke has pissed you off and you come here for advice.

    Everyone advises you to stay away from men for a while and concentrate on yourself and yet here you are again with the same kind of problem.

    You are acting like a teenager not a mature woman. Grow up and stop letting men to wind you up.

    I'm unemployed and live with my parents but...

    Yea he's a douche like I've said before. You should dump him and go on a double date with your sister and I. You can text him the pictures. I don't mind.

    Yeah but this bloke normally helps me with advice on men etc and is just a friend, not dated him and wouldn't ever date him that's why I'm not sure if this is just friend banter

    Do you actually want advice? This isn't intended to be mean, but you don't seem to be even looking for validation, let alone advice.

    Yes. From men because I don't know if this is how guys talk to each other. And if I should just suck it up as an honorary lad

    No, that's not how guys talk to each other, and even if it's different where you live, that's something you could find out for yourself hanging around a pub for an hour or two. I've never had a male friend compare my attractiveness to my brother. I doubt many people have. So no, he's also not treating you as "one of the guys".
