Hi Everyone! So I've had a personal trainer now for 6 weeks and I see her 3 times a week for an hour. I eat around 2,000 calories a day but I've had a few exercise induced migraines recently and i feel tired all the time! Like I had a 2 hour nap after work today... my PT had advised I get a blood test to check my iron levels. Does anyone else have any ideas? I was great at the start of this, I had way more energy

Definitely check your iron, thyroid (specifically Free t3 and t4 levels), and try taking a b complex. I take Vitamin D and Vit. B and I find I recover better and have more energy when consistently taking them. It looks like you're eating a good amount but the migraines are concerning--see the doc and when you do, request those labs I suggested, in addition to what they suggest for migraines.2

When my anemia is untreated I have crippling fatigue.
Other things to check are your thyroid and for deficiencies in Vitamins B12 and D.
Food also plays a role - pizza makes me sleepy, etc. I need more protein and less carbs from flour (or sugar.)0 -

Go to your doctor. They're the ones that can check your vitals and do a test on your bloodwork.

Try eating more carbs.

Look at your diary and see if there are any similar foods /ingredients you're consuming on days you have the migraines. Certain foods are triggers for me. So is overheating. Check with your doctor....He/She can do tests and help you get a better handle on the migraines.0

I went to the doctors last week about the migraines, he checked me over and said everything is fine so they should just disappear over time and to go back if they don't go or get more frequent. I get uncomfortably hot when I exercise and the unit I train in doesn't help so may be over heating? I am having a blood test Tuesday so we shall see!0

Glad you went to the Dr. Are you hydrated enough before and after your workout? I ask because I get exercised induced migraines if I'm not. I am however prone to migraines though0

Have your doctor test your iron, hemoglobin, b12, vitamin D, magnesium, and everything else they can think of.
Also are you getting adequate protein in your diet?
Activity level
Protein needs (grams)
Sedentary: Weight in pounds X .4
Active: Weight in pounds. X .6
Competitive athlete: Weight in pounds X .75
Light body-builder: Weight in pounds X .85

I used to really under eat protein and even though I was getting plenty of calories the lack of adequate protein combined with exercise and weight training made me feel tired and weak. Once I upped my protein to 100 grams per day I noticed my natural energy increase drastically and I began getting very strong in the gym and even gained muscle despite being in a caloric deficit for weight loss. Check your daily protein intake in "nutrition"-> "nutrients"0 -

The blood test will reveal if you are anemic or have a deficiency, the doctor can't tell that just by looking at you.
For now can you change your workouts to being lower impact and focus on building muscle and strength rather than getting your heart rate up?? I've found that I do much better when I focus on weight lifting and body building exercises and not on high intensity cardio or fast movements like plyometrics (burpees, jump squats etc). You can still do steady state cardio like walking and hiking too. Maybe for now try nothing that spikes your heart rate or makes you overheat? Doing lower impact exercise would be much better than stopping exercise altogether, and it's not necessary to work too hard in the gym to get a benefit to weight loss and health. I do much better with lower impact exercise than high impact and I'm losing weight and getting great muscle definition & strength.0
