Hey!
We are looking to go to the Florida Keys for 5 days as part of a Florida road trip, but any decent hotel is sooo expensive!! Anyone know of any decent hotels that dont cost the earth? Or is it best to stay on the mainland???
Thanks!0 -
I've never been to the keys.. but I live in the Pensacola area, so western panhandle. It's so beautiful here. The water is clear green / blue and the sand is white. In my opinion it just seems to be hotter the farther south you get. Maybe think about Destin? It's in the panhandle too and hotels on the beach aren't too unreasonable.0

I love going there! I've been twice, but both times we camped out in tents or stayed at a dolphin research facility in cabins. I know hotels are expensive but it's soooooo worth it!0

We went the beginning of April and stayed on Islamorada at a place called Coral Bay Resort. They are more like Villas and it is quiet and beautiful!! http://www.coralbayresort.com/ Im not sure how their rates compare to hotels because we didnt even look into hotels, this place was refered to us from a friend. They all have kitchens and a grill which is nice! Good Luck!0

Hey, We are going in sept, doing 4 days in Keys and then travelling up to Orlando. We are staying in a Holiday Inn (cant remember exactly where as I'm at work now!) . Renting a property is very expensive and difficult for under 7 days. Do you have any hotel points, like Priority Pass or Hilton Honors, that can help take the cost down.
Cant wait !!! )0 -
It's been a while since I've been down there and so I don't have the names of hotels and stuff, but it's been my experience that if you look into the hotels in some of the smaller keys you can find better rates. Then just drive down to Key West when you want to visit that.0

Which Key will you be on? You definitely don't want to go back and forth especially depending on how far down the Keys you go. We were just there in April for a dive trip (Key Largo) and stayed at the Key West Inn (I know, name is misleading!) and it was great for a family of four. It's a little dated but it's kinda like a townhouse with a full kitchen and a separate master bedroom. Good luck, it's beautiful!0

Are you going to Key West? I live a couple hours drive north of the Keys so I've been often. The Key West experience is quite different than say a trip to Marathon. You can send me a note on here and I'll give you lots of info once I know where you want to go or what kind of trip you'd like to have (fishing, historical landmarks, party-time, Jimmy Buffett vibe, etc.).0

We stayed in a timeshare promo hotel on Marathon Island and drove to Key West to do fun things. That makes gas/food/parking expensive, but the hotel rate was much better. We did have to sit through a sales presentation though.
You could also rent a camper/RV and drive it down to stay in one of the state parks on the beach. Just as a warning though, the beaches are terrible in the Keys if you actually like to swim or ride waves. The water's very shallow. Unless you have a boat or like snorkeling, it can be pretty dull.0
