I have the Polar FT4 and I really like it. It is a watch but you also need the chest strap for this one.

I'm looking also. So far I've heard good things mostly about Polar. There is also Garmon & Timex Ironman though. I had a Polar in the past & it was great but once the battery died it became a hassel & now it no longer works. I think you have to send them in or have an authorized dealer change the batteries on them for them to work right after the initial one gives out.

I have a New Balance N4 and I love it. Any HRM with a chest strap is significantly more reliable.

I ordered the Polar FT4. Don't go to your local store and buy just the watch. I got a Sportline from Wal*Mart for about $30 and with in 4 days the readings are all messed up and screwy. It was just the watch .. no chest strap. Go onto Amazon and do a search on them. Lots of reviews on any kind of HRM you can think about!! LOL! That is where I ordered my Polar and it will be here by next week. I can't wait! LOL!

You definitely need an HRM with a chest strap to be accurate. I also had one that was just a heart rate watch and it was no good. I have a polar ft7 and it's great.

Last I looked, Costco carries the New Balance N4 in store for less than $40. My sister has one and swears by it.

I just ordered a F7 polar watch from Amazon, comes with a strap, & says I can change the batteries on my own. It's under $100 and they have deals on all of them through their site... just a FYI;-)

Be careful of that. My HRM says I can just open the back and change the batteries, too, but I've been unable to find a screwdriver that will allow me to get it open. And I have some very small screwdrivers in different shapes and sizes. I ended up taking it to a watch repair shop to have the battery replaced for $10.

$10 does not seem like a bad price at all!! :) How long did your battery last?
