Hello, I was wondering if anyone has used the medication topamax for their weight loss and If so, how did it work, did you have any side effects? I was prescribed this med because I get headaches a lot and it's supposed to help with them, but they said it also us prescribed for weight loss. Thanks in advance:)

I had no appetite. It also made me very disoriented and confused. Good luck and I hope it helps you.

I'm a bipolar. Topamax can be used as mood stabilizer. I was prescribed it and couldn't tolerate it. I would forget words and couldn't think straight. I almost crashed my car. There is a reason it is called dopamax. Personally, if you have any other options for medication, try something else. It's a scary scary drug.

I use it for my migraines and it is phenomenal as far as that goes. There are some side effects at first but once you get past those they worked great for the migraines. I have heard of the weight loss side effect but never actually experienced myself from the topomax.

I was prescribed it for my headaches and when I took it I felt like I was drunk. That was even at a very small dose.

I take it for migraines. I lost weight but I was still doing the work- lifestyle change, diet, and exercise. And when I slack off on those I gain weight. So I can't say in any way whether it affected my weight.

Doc prescribed it to me for headaches but once I saw the side effects I opted to pass on it.

Yes, it works. I take it at night before bed. I weigh myself every morning and I loss 1-2 pounds everyday. This is coupled with watching what I eat, too.

I have been on this medication in the past for migraines. I am now off it. I was on it for 1 year which was 6 months past my neurologists recommendations. It never helped with any weight loss.

I take it for Fibromyalgia. In the beginning it does tend to suppress my appetite, but I think that effect eventually wears offs. I've taken it before and had the side affects mentioned here, re: dopamax. This time I increased my dosage gradually starting at the lowest and going 6 weeks before increasing. I'm not sure if that would be helpful for your migraines. I did not gain full benefits until I had increased the dosage twice. Each time I increased, I think the appetite suppression returned.

It definitely helps me. It has almost completely eliminated my urge to binge eat. I have not experienced any adverse side effects and I'm in my second month of taking it.

I was on it a couple years ago off and on. The first time I lost almost 10 lbs not even trying due to appetite suppression. After I was off and started drinking/eating more I gained it back. The 2nd time I lost only 5 lbs. I got sick and forgot to take for about a month. I got back on the meds but they were already at 50% + infectivity. I ended up regaining the 5lbs after drinking a lot and the meds no longer work for anything. But wonderful medication if you can remember to take it and not go on/off.

Lol yeah the side effects are bad. You forget things- what you were doing, words, names, objects, everything really. Its called the supermodel drug too bc it makes you thin and stupid. But I liked the slightly intoxicated feeling since it helped my ptsd a lot. Even helps with not drinking. And if you drink on it you can get bad hangovers.
