Morning vs. night workout?

Personally, I have better mentality about eating cleaner when/after I work out. My current usual workout time is around 7/8 pm, and while I usually eat decent, I don't always and while I'm working out
I always just stress and question why I ate whatever I did, but I have a better attitude about eating when I'm done- a little too late though. I want to start trying to work out around 6/7am because I feel it will improve my health and choices. I guess my question is, does working out in the morning make any change to results, or is it just as effective/the same as working out at night?

Hi, I don't know if it means something about healthy, but if you look at the tv, or people who lives with this, the people try to do their workouts in the morning.
I do my workouts in the morning because of the time, and i think that doing morning workouts, you start the day full of energy and it helps you to feel that you are doing right.
Hope that my thoughts help you.1 -
Working out is working out. What time you do it doesn't really matter, it's what you do. If you think that working out earlier might alleviate some of the stress you're feeling, have at it. If you eat better after working out, that might make it better for you in particular. But the effectiveness of the actual exercise is pretty much the same5

So I've done both workouts. I didn't notice anything different physically. Lost the same amount of weight and gained the same muscle. But for my mental well-being, I prefer evening workouts after a long day at work. I use workout as a stress reliever as much as I do for the physical health benefits, if not more for the mental health part, so evenings suit me better. If you think that morning workouts will prepare you for your day better and set you up for success, give it a try.4

I prefer morning and midday exercises. If I workout at night I have trouble sleeping. I am too amped up, plus, I usually do not have much energy towards the end of the day.2

It may matter to an individual but it's a personal preference.
My best time is afternoon through to the evening, both in terms of performance but also energy and enthusiasm.
I also sleep really well when physically tired.
Do what suits you and fits in your day.2 -
I have more time in the evening to work out. I have to be at work by 7:15 am. My gym doesn't have showers so I would have to drive to the gym, back home and then to work. It doesn't make sense for me to do that.
I prefer to workout in the evening at around 5:45, sometimes 4:30 (depending on work). On the weekends I workout in the later morning.
It doesn't matter when you workout, it just matters that you do it.1 -
Some days I work out in the mornings (around 4AM) and other days I work out in the evenings (around 5:30PM). I personally enjoy working out in the evenings better. In the mornings, I don't feel fully awake or coherent yet so I don't think I give my workouts "my all" oppose to how I perform in the evenings. As far as the eating goes, I stay within my daily calorie goal either way. It's just a matter of personal preference and what works best for you.2

training is training...there's no particular benefit to when you do it.1

I love working out in the AM because I don't have to worry about fitting it in later and I get to enjoy the evenings with my husband. But really, the best time is the one that fits best into your life. Lots of people have success with afternoon or evening workouts.0

As long as your doing what works best for you it doesn't matter if it's day or night. I do best during the work week going right after work before I make dinner. On my days off I go as soon as I wake up.

I love to workout in the late afternoon or evening...I feel it releases the stress of the day and then I always sleep really well. I am not a morning person and I start work at 7am so a workout at 5am would be a no-go for me!2

Makes no difference other than what you can consistently adhere to for your goals.1

I am not a morning person, I just can't seem to get up and workout. I workout in the evening, which is also a great stress reliever for my day. Do what works for you.1

I do a mix of morning and evening workouts. Although I feel great after working out in the morning, it is a real struggle for me to wake up that early. But I also use exercise as a stress reliever, and it can be wonderful to go for a run or lift some weights after a stressful day at work.
I agree with what has been posted already - it comes down to individual preference and what fits with your lifestyle.0 -
I normally get up around 5:30 a.m to do my workout, that way i am done for the day. I agree with others morning or afternoon you get the same result, whichever works best for you. Personally, i find in the afternoon my energy is down from working 8 hrs and having to attend sport activities with my son. I have more energy in the morning and can perform my workouts better!!0

I'm up at 4:45 am every morning, and it's just more practical to work out when I get off around 3:30 pm. Besides, my kids are old enough that I can go for a run and they could care less if I'm gone for 45 mins1

One more vote for "your preference." I prefer to work out over my lunch hour, but late afternoon/evening is usually more convenient. I've tried morning workouts, but they just aren't as effective for me. I find I don't really put my all in to them as I just don't have much energy in the morning.1

The best time for workout is anytime you can commit to on a consistent basis. If 7/8 pm works for you then that's cool. Don't stress about the time because seriously you're going to have to ask yourself are you really going to drag your butt out of bed at 6 am day after day? I think you should also let go of the stress over little diet misses. It happens. Again, it's all about consistency. Not to mention it's basically impossible to out train a Double Quarter Pounder value meal. Well... it's doable just not so good for your sanity.
That being said, I do mornings. To be clear, I am NOT a morning person. Heh, before I started this whole "get fit" routine I wasn't sure there was a 4 o' clock in the morning. My days usually started at 10 am. But around that time and after the gym gets a little busy, especially at night when I have to deal with the loafers--those idiots who just hog a machine and do nothing. Ugh.
But I get what you saying though. Working out early makes for a early "win" and colors the day with success. After a workout, I'm less inclined to eat a Double Quarter Pounder because both the psychology and the physical burn in my muscles tells me that I would be doing a disservice for myself.
I think you should experiment and see what works out.1
