Exercising post-surgery

Hi, I had an operation on my foot last week and have 2-6 weeks before I will have full use again.

I can hobble around on my heel but can't put full pressure on the rest of my foot.

After 5 days of watching TV I'm bored and want to do some exercise! I desperately don't want to put weight on as it will make my full recovery harder.

I would appreciate any exercise ideas I can try? I'm thinking sit ups and hand weights for strength but would like to do some cardio too...

Thanks :)

A question worth asking your doc is if you prohibited from exercising on a stationary bicycle? I would think that would not put pressure on your foot if you keep it at a lighter tension. Just a thought and not sure if you have access to one.

    Thanks for replies :)

I gave an exercise bike at home but the operation was between my toes on the top of my foot so I'd have to put my foot through and just use my heel to peddle... I may try it out tomorrow morning and see how it feels!

Otherwise cardio I can do whilst sitting is good, I will look at chair boxing :)

I would say take really easy for a few months! I overdid it after my surgery and my body has yet to fully recover. My Dr. told me that my active fitness level was good going into surgery but that athletes tend to have complications post surgery because pain receptors are not as sharp/present for someone who is highly athletic. Play it safe, get a persinal trainer or physical therapist for a few months. :):)

That's a good point :) I don't want to overdo it I just want to make sure I don't gain anything... I'm off my feet for at least 2 weeks :( maybe some weight training will be enough!

After about 3 weeks post ankle surgery I got in the water and did some very light swimming and aqua jogging. However, I was guide by a doctor before I went to the pool. Check with the doc first!
