Hello- I recently lost my dad suddenly and I've been eating ever since. I already had about 30 pounds to lose, but have gained an additional 10. I also eat when I get frustrated, which seems to be often... Advice?

Apart from don't use food to deal with your emotions which is a lot easier said then done? When I lost my husband after losing over 50lbs I began eating poorly and by poorly I mean lots of fattening junk, and because I was so terrified of gaining the weight I worked so hard to lose as a result of my grief I almost developed an eating disorder. I barely ate and melted away to nothing in a matter of months. The only thing that's gotten me through it and on a better path was individual therapy and group grief support therapy.

I do mediate. I do yoga. I take a B vitamin complex supplement. All these things are good ways to handle stress and depression without resorting to eating but I still consider meeting with a therapist regularly and support group meetings vital to helping me deal with emotional issues.

I am sorry to hear about your father, I lost my dad a couple of years ago, it can be trying times.

Look for alternative actions instead of eating. You need to keep your mind and hands otherwise occupied.

Go for a walk with a friend or family member, read a good book while soaking in the bath, play games with children, phone someone to talk to, take a fitness class (boxing is good for getting out frustrations or anger, take up knitting or crocheting, etc etc

Wow, JacquiH73, sounds like you've been through a lot. I admire your tenacity and ability to overcome. I tried a grief group last week and couldn't stop crying. I was so embarrassed, I practically ran to my car when it was over.
But I have been trying to overcome. I packed a salad for lunch today, instead of junk, and have been taking my blood sugar again. Woot!
