Sudden Loss While on Lifting Break

I finished up on Saturday with a workout program I have been doing for 12 weeks. After feeling a sharp pain during lat raises that has set my shoulder and neck on fire for about 5 days now, I decided to take a week off between programs to recover. Between that and a cortisone shot in my knee Monday, I need to heal.

Anyway. I have dropped 2 lbs this week since I stopped working out. I am really nervous about losing muscle mass. Is this just loss due to inflammation going down? It's a bit alarming because I was losing at a much slower rate when lifting 4x a week.

When you don't exercise, you store less glycogen in your cells. And vice versa, that's why it's not uncommon for people to gain weight when they start and exercise program.

That happened, too. Lol Thanks for that! I just wanted to make sure I'm not messing up by taking some time off. I gotta recover, though.

You won't lose muscle with a week off. In fact, with a little rest you'll probably be primed for MORE muscle growth.

Sweet! Thanks for that tip! I'm ready to get back to lifting, though. Feels weird being off. Lol

Hydrocortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory so good chance you shed some water.
Your don't lose (or build!) muscle in a week.

Call it a deload week if that sounds better than a rest. :)
