Hi everyone. I just started on Monday and I'm doing well so far. I love the site. It's like a puzzle, filling in all the pieces to see what you come up with at the end of the day. I have two teenagers a very supportive husband, and I'm not afraid of exercise! My biggest concern is the time it takes to log in everything and stay connected. I will be going back to work full-time at the end of August, and I can just see this falling by the wayside. I'm really hoping I'll do so well by then that I won't want to stop. How do those of you who work full-time stay on top of this? BTW, my goal is to lose about 20-25 pounds.

I have the app for my IPhone, it makes it really easy and if I plan my meals ahead of time, I just log everything into MFP the night before. The added bonus is that I can add more food if my calories are a little low.
Welcome to MFP!0 -
It is hard working a full time job, exercising and family! I been doing this for almost a year! I kind of got off track within the last couple of months just because I got burned out. I suggest you start now! Then try to fit it in when work comes. I usually just do it all at once at the end of the day before bed time. The tricky thing is to monitor your time so your not goofing off reading other peoples stuff. I get carried away commenting on my friend's threads. When it gets busy, I try to only comment on my friends that actually comment on mine. But its better to do your part then it is to get caught up in the social networking support. Because that takes a lot of time.
Start out slow on your exercise thing. Don't overwhelm yourself. That way you would be injury free and more likely to continue exercising. Good luck!0 -
Well, you could try to plan your meals in advance and pre enter things first thing, then only modify if things change-if you're pretty organized this might work for you. I teach and despite my best plans can never quite get there organizationally... so I enter breakfast and workout before I leave, then take a minute at the end of lunch to do the same, then just before I go to bed.
My friend just does her log in the evening.
Now that i've entered some of my favorite recipes and have made the habit it really doesn't take as long. And I find I need the accountability.0 -
Thanks for all the responses. I am a teacher, also, so I can't imagine logging in during the school day due to time issues. However, I think keeping track and logging at night might work. Pre-planning my meals has not been my strong suit, but now that I've been doing this, I can see how it might be possible. I will have a bunch of "good" meals in my database by the time I go back to work in August. I might even surprise myself and get things ready the night before! I might have to stay away from the social aspect (posting) in the beginning because that is definitely a time killer. On another note, I actually have been exercising at a gym for a while but had foot surgery recently so I'm losing a month, possibly two. I am at the point where I can do the exercise bike moderately and any upper body exercises. Should be back at the gym by mid-August. Looking forward to it, believe it or not! Do you guys find that the calorie counts in the database are pretty accurate?0

Majority of calorie counts are accurate. Every once in a while I catch some that are not. I know some of these because i read labels before I buy stuff at the grocery store. Sometimes I check out restaurant web sites to see nutrition, however, a recently heard on the radio that many restaurants are off by 100 calories because they don't want you to be discourage buying their food - that is scary isn't it?0 -
