Arthritis exercises

I have arthritis in both knees. My orthopaedic specialist has told me to find something I can do exercise-wise but not walking or running. The pain is too bad for me to get up and down off the floor, but does yoga or Pilates offer something that might help? If I do the whole workout on the floor I'm probably OK, I just can't get up and down a number of times. I tried the stationary bike but the pain was intense. I can't swim due to eczema from chlorine. I need to get my heart rate up as well as do the upper body strength training I'm doing at the gym. I can't get on my hands and knees so do modified sit-ups and press ups. I'm enjoying it, but my specialist wants me doing some cardio as well. Any tips appreciated.

There is chair yoga and on PBS there is a show Sit and Be Fit. I doubt these would be cardio. Regular yoga involves a lot of up & down from the floor &a lot of moving around when on the floor. Can you do an elliptical or a rower? Not sure what else to suggest for cardio if walking, running, cycLing, and swimming are out. There are low impact aerobic classes too.

That's a tough one. If the constant flexing of your knees whilst biking was causing you pain, then I'm not sure either an elliptical or a rower will be much better, but it's worth a shot. As for swimming, are there any salt water swimming pools in your area? Perhaps that will be better for the eczema than chlorine?

Hi, I have arthritis in both knees, previous lower back surgery and would love some help also.
I can do some walking however after I do my walk it's like I'm done for the day.
I can't do floor exercises either unless someone has a crane to get me back up, lol.
I started by walking 10 minutes at a time around my house a few times a day. I slowly worked up to going on the road and every few weeks added a couple minutes.
I lose 40 lbs and have been now trying to locate modified toning and strength exercises that don't wipe me out.
I did find some YouTube videos that I can do most of what she says but if I can't do a move I just step in place to keep moving. I haven't checked out yet but someone mentioned HASfit it's a couple that shows 2 ways todo moves. I have tried some of Jessica Smith's videos for bad knees and checked out Coach Tulin modification exercises ( she is a plus size woman that couldn't do a lot)
I'm just so tired after I walk dog that I have trouble motivating to do videos then accomplish anything about house.
Anyone feel free to add me.

Me too! I really get a good work out, build muscles, trim down, and feel like jello after being in the heated therapy pool! Is a wet suit an option for the person having chlorine exposure probs?
Does anyone have stats for calories burned for non-swim water exercises, ie; water walking w/& w/o power arms under water, different exercise reps(upper & lower body) ???? Many thanks and wishing ya less pain.
