wow, yesterday I started a thread that went mad, 20 pages over eight THOUSAND views in three hours and I look for it this morning and.......it's gone....how did that happen? Why? It was not a bad thread, it was just a sort of list of confessions like 'I love chocolate and think some people should wash more' etc...anyone know how it got to be deleted? Is this telling me something about this site I don't like??

  • yes! if you don't say what the moderators want you to say, they will delete your messages and if they think you may be a threat to the community, they will delete you!

I think what may have happened and happens some times with threads, someone took it to another level, someone confessed possibly that they were hurting themselves or something of that nature, and sometimes regardless of how harmless a thread starts people within said thread start to bicker & say nasty things, it's not your fault or the moderators' faults. It probably just went somewhere you never intended it to, and that's why it got removed.

I don't think it was an overly zealous moderator, there was probably some legitamately not-too-great things that happened in the thread once it reached a certain point.

well the twenty pages that were there when I went to bed last night were all fine, so how can the entire thread be deleted, it was fun, harmless and inoffensive at that point, is it not possible for the moderators to warn then delete just offensive POSTS rather than the entire thread? I am a moderator on a small forum and I know that is possible on there, it seems rather draconian to remove all the posts on a thread that was popular with lots of people.

This thread may get deleted as well, as it's against the rules to slam the moderators on the forums.

am not slamming the moderators, I am merely questioning why an entire thread was deleted and offfering an alternative solution.

If this is considered 'slamming' then maybe MFP is not for me. I am polite, balanced, non extreme and not making any offensive or aggresive postings.

    :flowerforyou: Hi there,
I wasn't the moderator who deleted the thread, however after looking at the moderator logs it seems that the thread stayed jolly for quite a while and then became very volatile with references to religion, politics e.t.c. The thread was extremely heated. In certain cases we may only delete the posts with offensive language/behaviour in them if the thread looks like it will recover from the arguments. If the thread contains information that will benefit members in the future then the aggressive posts will be deleted and the thread will be locked for future referencing.

However as was the case with this particular thread, if a moderator had tried to edit offensive posts and posts containing offensive content, the thread would have ended up with many holes in. We then have the problem of individuals feeling that their post shouldn't have been deleted because "so and so said this" and they were only retaliating. It is therefore better to delete the entire thread to avoid future conflicts arising from the moderator actions.

The thread was a fun thread but contained no important fitness/exercise information for other users to benefit from, so therefore in a case like this, the thread is simply deleted.

    Hope this answers your queries?

If you want to question the actions of a moderator in future then please contact us or Mike directly...if you put it on the threads, we may sometimes overlook it if the thread is not reported.
