Curiousity about DOMS

I took a 2 week break from exercise and dieting. On Monday I did my weights routine (HASFit beginner weights, I use 15lb weights) Yesterday I walked on the treadmill for 45mins. I am used to getting DOMS from the weights, It's always 48 hours later that I get really sore. What I am curious about is why is it always in my legs. I never seem to get very sore in my arms or anywhere else, almost always mostly the back of my thighs, (and hips a little) Does any one else experience this?

Genetics. I only get DOMS in my legs.. never in my upper body.1 -
Same. Even though I consider myself to have strong legs and a weak upper body. When I first started with weights I tried telling my trainer to ease me into it gently because I get crazy bad DOMs in my legs. The next day, I couldn't walk. Literally couldn't walk. I had to slither downstairs on my backside to call work and let them know I couldn't come in because of a beginners kettle bell workout. Mortifying! DOMS is real, y'all!3

Now I'm jealous.
DOMS in my legs I can deal with, after all stairs can be taken at the granny pace (no offense meant to any of the super fit grannies around here)...
The arms on the other hand... I feel positively crippled. Lifting them in the morning to brush my teeth is almost mission impossible. Add the abs to that after a full body work out and you've got a recipe for misery.1 -

I'm your evil twin. Chest and arms, yep. Legs, only once or twice in my life and never from lifting (rather, from long runs).1 -
I get exactly the same which I still find odd as I walk a lot so my legs are used to being used more than my arms (also using HASFIT - love it). Upping protein and water intake after my workouts helps and also found having a hot shower and turning to cold 30-60 secs helps too.1

Simple answer is you are not working hard enough to break down the muscle in your upper body (muscle tears in a workout). Your body is used to the movements/intensity/volume you are training your upper body with. DOMS is NOT necessarily a significant marker of a "good" workout though. But still, you can try changing up the intensity of your upper body routine by increasing the rep scheme, increasing the weight, decreasing the rest between workouts or slowing everything down and making sure you are truly engaging your body well- muscle isolation. Hope this helps! -Christine Coen1

I don't necessarily agree with that (completely). Personal experience has demonstrated otherwise. Even when I did GVT (10x10), I never had DOMS in my upper body. Even with my current program (BLS), where I am lifting at 85% of 1RM for sets of 4-6, I still don't see DOMS in my upper body. In fact, I really haven't found a program or scheme that makes my upper body get DOMS.
Not saying you are wrong, but I do think there is a genetic component which also has to be factored into the equation.1 -

My DOMS are so bad in my legs, it makes going to the bathroom a chore. I get it no matter how much I train or what program I follow. If I do legs, I can't barely move for 2 days...1 -

How often do you train legs?
I moved to hitting them twice per week at the back end of last year, and now i rarely get DOMs in my legs, if i do it is very minor. When training them once per week, DOMS were severe for days lol
Currently, 2x a week. I had to drop a 3x full body routine because I wasn't able to adequately recover from it. Even tried adding flexibility training/foam rolling.. nothing helped.
ETA: typical sodium intake around 4-6k, work in foods high in potassium/magnesium to see if there would be improvements from electrolytes as well.0 -

Maybe it is genetics, like you mentioned earlier. I seem to have found a sweet spot with 2x per week, lifts have progressed nicely while avoiding DOMS, although legs have always been a strong point for me.
What is interesting, I have always been very leg dominant; former soccer and ice hockey player.1 -

I am opposite...only get it upper body and can NEVER get it in my quads :-(0 -
It's super bad today ya'll... walking like a barbie doll hahaha I should remind myself never to take that long of a break! hahaha
I've only been doing the beginner video for HASFit 2x a week and just upping the weight when I can for about 6 to 9 months. I can sometimes get through the whole workout with 20lb dumbbells but its a major struggle. I seem to be stuck at that.. and at 159lbs. I'm mostly trying to retain muscle while I lose weight.
Thank you for your replies

I feel your pain - literally, also if I ever take a break. I get pretty severe DOMS all over. I'll even get sore from yoga if I take a break and go back to it. I think I'm just genetically susceptible, and I'm kind of used to it but it still sucks to be sort of sore somewhere most of the time.1
