What's the logic for not showing higher calorie burn when you do strength training, don't you burn more calories when you do weight lifting?

  • The strength training section is more of a log. If you want calories burned enter it into the cardio section under weight training.

I think with strength training your heart rate is elevated in short bursts, whereas with cardio your heart rate is ramped up the whole time. Your HRM doesn't pick up on the fact that your metabolism is elevated for many hours after weight training. Don't worry too much about the numbers, just keep training!

The reason they don't do that, is because MFP has no way of knowing

    how hard you are lifting
    what weight you are lifting
    how much time inbetween sets
what your heart rate is at
    if you are lifting light/heavy

Plus when you weight train you tend to keep burning calories even after you finish working out.

so there is no logical way for it to calculate what your calorie burn is... If you enter it under cardio, it will let you add calories, but chances are MFP is going to over calculate your burn.

Be careful!! don't want to over eat...

Best option is to buy a HRM and enter what the HRM says
