Frustrated with women's clothing sizes

I've always had a tough time with women's clothing. I'm a size smaller on top than bottom, so dresses, matching suit sets, and one-piece bathing suits are tough for me. I just opt for separates to make it easier.

I was shopping the other day with a friend who's a bit bigger than I, so we were in the Women's section. I tried on a cute top in a 1X (their smallest size). It was too big. After she was done shopping, I took a chance that they'd have the same style top in the Misses section. Sure enough, they had it in XL (the biggest size). It was too small. Dangit Dangit Dangit. So I left the store empty handed. How frustrating to be stuck in between size departments.

I would totally think of this as a NSV. I would love to be that close to the Misses department.

Just a few more weeks and a few more pushups and you'll be there!

Girl I know what you mean! I hate shopping b/c a size 16 pants is to small and a size 18 is to big! and I have the same problem as well except I am bigger on the top than the bottom!

What I especially find frustrating are PANTS!
I'm like you, petite on top, but long and thick legs on the bottom. Not to mention shoulders as broad as the great wall of China. Sheesh.
So while I am an XS or S in a top, I'm a 26-27 in jeans (4 in Juniors). They should coordinate all women's pants over to the waist system, and offer complimentary tailoring because gosh darn it, we are all beautiful and different shapes and sizes!

for me it totally depends on the brand. my medium work shirts are huge on me but the smalls squish my chest. when i get shirts at walmart mediums fit perfect if i get a shirt else where who knows what size i'll need, i do know that i fit in a medium at wet seal tho :) and pants... don't get me started. i have a pair of 11's from dots that are slightly too big but i can wear with a belt and i have a pair of 6s from meijer that fit almost perfect, they're a little loose. i either try something on or depending on what i'm wearing when i'm shopping hold the seems up to the seems on what i'm wearing.

I know the feeling. I have that problem with certain brands. But, I also would have bought the XL as motivation to fit into it. I found jeans on super sale over the holidays and even though I couldn't button them (they are a 12 and I'm a 14 currently) I bought them to motivate myself. I also took a lot of size 10's from my sister to have when I get down to that size. Just knowing I have all those cute/new clothes to wear when I lose weight gives me that much more to work towards.

Speaking of tailoring, if you go to the Buckle, I believe they off complementary tailoring on their jeans! The jeans are like $70 and up though, so I guess it depends if you are willing to spend money.

Buy the bigger size and have it taken in where needed or buy the smaller size for when you can fit in it.

I hear you. I HATE different brands playing the "number game". Recently, my favorite retail store changed the cut of their jeans. I HAVE NOT changed my size, up or down, since last fall. But yet I dropped a whole "size"? Yeah right. It's just to make girls think their *kitten* are smaller so we'll want to buy their clothes.

Don't fall for it. Buy what fits you best. Buy what's flattering on your figure. Don't give a rip about what the "size" is; it's not a good estimator of your actual size.

    :)

You should just try on all of the same size ones that they stock, LOL. I actually have a pair of jeans (two pairs, actually - of the exact same jeans, purchased at the same time). One fits nicely. The other - I can barely get over my tush...
