I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a caffeine-free pre-workout?

    Water? Gatorade?

I don't understand the point of this pre-workout nonsense. Fuel your body for the workout if it is going to be long (like a very long run or ride). Otherwise, what is the point?

Water and motivation are both caffeine free.

What exactly do you think taking a pre-workout will achieve for you?

I just read what I wrote and it kinda seemed like I was being an *kitten* - singling you out for the pre-workout. I apologize if I did. My point was more to all of the pre-workout threads and advertisements. It seems to be the current fad and make little sense to me. Now I do use high carb gels that contain small amounts of caffiene when I run long distances. This is done to refuel. It does not give me a 'boost'. It helps to keep me from crashing.

    Good luck.

I can't eat too much before I swim, so I eat these refrigerated Fresh Bars from Hyvee. They are sweetened with fruit and honey and have a good mix of carbs, protein, and fat. They are 220 calories. I think if you get a good mix of carbs, protein, and fat you will be good.

I drank coffee one day and almost threw it up in the pool.

I like Hemavol & Musclepharm's Vasosport. Neither of these contain Creatine so I mix it in with my preworkout. Anyone who's serious about lifting should take Creatine IMO. It's the one supplement with the most scientific evidence to back it's effectiveness.
