Currently breastfeeding my 14 month old and counting calories to lose fat.
Anyone know how many extra calories you burn burn a day? Right now my LO is still feeding quite a bit.. maybe 5-7 times a during the day and a few times at night. Any tips would be greatly appreciated:)

I meant to say 158 calories per 90 minutes of breastfeeding. I have a 10 month old who is breastfeeding

I am breastfeeding my 18 month old. She feeds pretty frequently, probably at least 8 times in 24 hrs. I just estimate mine to be around 350. If I allow more than 500 calories for breastfeeding I gain weight.

Thanks ladies:) I've been estimating that I'm burning at the least 200 calories per 24 hours breastfeeding. Don't want to go over that incase I'm wrong but every where I've read says about 300-350

I think that's only if your breastfeeding a baby younger then a year isn't it? My toddler doesn't nurse at much as he use to because he eats a lot of solids but does still nurse a nice bit. There's no real way of knowing I guess.

i've read a lot of accounts, usually somewhere in the neighbourhood of 200-400 claories. I usually just give myself a "free" or cheat piece of fruit to balance it out as I am not clear how much I do burn. My almost 21-month-old still nurses a lot, several times at night.

It's actually anywhere from 200-650 calories per day for your baby. It depends on how long and how often your nursling is feeding. Mine nurses every 1.5 hours for 10 minutes per feed during the daytime with 2-3 ten minute sessions at night.

I give myself roughly 400 calories for my baby. I've lost 30+ pounds at this level. Your mileage may very, adjust as needed. I personally won't drop the number below 400 because I want to ensure my milk supply is strong for her.

I've heard that every ounce of breast milk is about 20c, give or take, so if you pump at all or even approximate that your lo takes 3-4 oz per feeding you can kind of get an estimate.
