Rubbing yourself

get your attention?

Upside of exercising more = I feel (generally) great and feel like I look awesome.
Downside of exercising more = huge knots in my muscles.
I’ve been seeing a masseuse once a week for the past few weeks, but I have so many problem areas at this point there isn’t enough time in the day (or money in my pocket) for him to address all of them. So, I’m curious about others solutions about the knots, not the general soreness from a great work out but (for example) those golf ball sized knots under my shoulder blades.

TP Massage ball is great. They also have similar products for your arms and legs.

People also rave about foam rollers, but I haven't tried those. I just stick to the TP Massage products.

I had a similar issue in my back and a PT had me use a tennis ball to work the knots on my own. I would either lay on the floor with the ball under the area of the knock and just move enought to roll it, or would do this same thing while standing against the wall. She suggested the wall first b/c you have more control over the amount of pressure being applied than you do when you are just laying on the ground letting gravity do it's thing. I was amazed at how well it worked for me. Might work with your shoulders as well? Good luck!

I would be alternating with chiro...if you are out of line there is no point in seeing the massage therapist and make sure you are seeing a RMT not a spa masseuse!!.

Try mindful relaxation techniques as well. I have constant back and neck soreness and all three of these combined provide huge relief.

You might want to make sure your doing your exercises correctly as well, if your straining or not pulling straight etc you could be adding to the injury. even 1 session with a personal trainer could help sort this out!

    Good Luck!

I've been having lumps and cramps in one calf, some in my back too but not as often as calf. During a massage on cruise ship last week the masseuse told me to detox with drinking more water, soak in bath with detox additive which says to massage muscles while in the bath, eat cleaner/heathier foods, and stretch before exercise (which I have slacked off and shouldn't have). I've also read it could be due to needing more potassium so I've been eating a banana each morning. Good luck working out a solution to your pain!

I use a trigger point foam roller and this thing called "the stick". I also use a softer baseball on a yoga block to get my hamstrings. I def. recommend a chiro.

I have a huge knot in my left shoulder. I recently got a massage and the massage therapist recommended this stuff called Sambra (the warm therapy one). It's kind of like Icy Hot, but without the icy. It works wonders at losening the tight muscles. I got mine on Amazon. Also, when I consistently practice yoga, I find that the knot doesn't bother me as much. Relaxation + stretching= happy muscles.

I have a foam roller and a stick, but neither can really reach my problem area in my shoulders. My PT told me it's not an issue with form, my form is fine. I'll try the tennis ball and see how that works. I do not believe in a spa massage . . . if it doesn't hurt I'm going to walk out with the same issues that I had when I arrived.

My muscles ache too! I want suggestions, people.

Also, anyone tried an acupressure mat? Like this: http://www.yantraway.com/
Because if they are good I totally want one, but if they suck... well, I don't. Opinions?

You know, now that I think about it... when I have a giant knot under my shoulder blade I use the corner of a door jam to get underneath it. I can use as much pressure as I need and move around as it does. If you need a "sharper" edge you can use the corner of a wall. Nothing is as good as deep tissue sports massage massage, but I have found that this can help in the mean time.

I have to admit, this isn't the sort of rubbing I thought the thread was going to be about.
