Mud run/obstacle course

I'm thinking of doing one of these obstacle course-type 5Ks. I can run a 5K (I can run a 10K) and I cross-train by kickboxing about twice a week.

Can I do this? How in the world do I train for it? What type of obstacles should I expect?

I've done a couple of Tough Mudders and gearing up for another this summer. From my personal experience, I have found that as long as you can run ~3miles in one stint, then you don't have to worry about pushing yourself much beyond that in terms of distance. Most obstacle courses (that I'm aware of) don't have you running longer than 1-2 miles before you hit the next obstacle. After my 1st one, I learned that I did not have nearly enough upper body strength as I should have to effectively complete the obstacles and offer better support to my teammates. This time around, weekly I'm focused on 2 days of cardio, 2 days of weight lifting, and a "free day" (I basically decide what I'm in the mood to do). I am noticing some increase in strength so hoping this will help me with all the wall climbs and such.

Oh and to answer your question, you can absolutely do it! :) If you know the type of course you want to train for, I suggest googling the event. Most events I know of have a dedicated website that not only gives you ideas about the obstacles you will encounter but also provide suggestions on how to train for it. Good luck!

Yes, you'll be able to do a 5K mud run (warrior dash, etc.). Based on your current programming, you won't have any issue with the running or keeping your motor going through the crawling, etc. The only thing I'd consider adding is strength training so you'll be capable of climbing.
