Building muscle causing water retention or swelling?

Hello,
I have had a personal trainer 2x/wk for the last 2.5 months. I also workout additionally on my own. I initially felt some looseness in my pants but have worked out pretty hard the last few days with muscle soreness (good soreness) and my pants feel a little tighter. Is this from the muscle being inflamed and slight swelling?

I am trying to lose fat in the process but am currently not weighing myself. I do monthly measurements instead.

Yes, especially if you worked legs/glutes, you could experience a "Pump" for a few hours afterward and if your soar there is some inflammation that will pass, drink lots of water

Yes, we have been doing lots of leg work. Tons of squats, dead lifts, lunges, etc. I haven't been drinking as much water as I usually do, I'm sure that isn't helping the problem

Thank you for the tip :)
