Hey, I am new to this site and message boards but feel like its a good place to start as any. I am not extremely picky but it seems like in all the good for you recipes and super foods and such I find myself looking at what I wont eat and feel limited in my cooking abilities. I am going into this with a open mind for the most part and would love to here any suggestions. Thank you

Hi, welcome to the Forum. This is a hard topic to advise on. A big list of all the ingredients you do like might help, or you can check out the recipes section, perhaps.

When you say you look at the things you won't eat, do you mean that you've tried that food before and didn't like it? Or you won't eat it because you haven't tried it and assume you won't like it?

Your tastes mature as you go, if you tried something as a kid and remember "not liking" it, perhaps it's time to give it another go! I've discovered I love A LOT of veggies that I used to say "ew" to. And beans, I love beans now but I remember a time when they made me cringe! Try some new foods or revisit some that you haven't tried. Worst case, you don't like it and know not to make it again.

As for feeling limited in your cooking abilities, they only grow with practice! No one starts off as a good cook. If you aren't sure how to do something a recipe calls for, Google it or look it up on YouTube. You'd be surprised what you find on there!

    Good luck!

well .. could you be more vague? Don't know what you don't like - perhaps you THINK you don't like things because you never tried them or they werent' properly prepared?
my suggestion would be to take a 'healthy cooking' class - i'm sure you can find one -
also if a recipe calls for some ingredient I can't eat, I try to substitute something I like - or leave it out altogether

lifestyle change is not without sacrifice - i've had to sacrifice coke, potato chips & fast food - but I consider a longer life worth it ~

thank you everyone for the posts and yes I didn't realize how vague I may have been. My apologizes but the suggestions were helpful. I haven't explored this whole site and its many helpful uses yet but am excited to make some serious lifestyle changes once again :)

Great. Good luck on your journey. Maybe you'll discover some new foods you like, too.
