Surprising weight gain

I'm hoping that by posting something there are people who have experienced something similar and could help me not drive myself crazy! So, just to preface, I have been dieting for a few weeks now in order to get myself back to my comfortable weight (120) after a tough year, holidays, and vacations, I managed to get up to 129lbs. I started dieting down and got myself to 123.8 by march 10th. Every weekend I have a cheat day, and I did that again that weekend (but probably more than usual because of alcohol). The next weight in on march 17th I was shocked when I weighed myself and was all the way back to 129. Also to add in to the equation, I have a history of digestion problems and haven't been "regular" or even close to that in 2 weeks or more than that. I'm just dumbfounded by this, but anyone I ask is telling me it's because of my bad digestion. I've started using some digestion aids to help (with no real luck so far) but has anyone out there seen this much of a weight increase because of bad digestion?? I'm driving myself crazy over here!

More likely to be hormonal, is it TOM?
That mixed with a high sodium meal.
Do you track your fibre?0 -
I'm about six days away from my TOM so that could also be a factor and I also do track my fiber. I usually go over my goal everyday because I eat a ton of vegetables0

never, ever worry about a 5lb daily fluctuation over the course of a day (or week). Bodies are constantly in flux and retain water, etc. There are countless things that on their own could account for such a fluctuation, let alone together (relation to periods, failing to digest regularly for 2 weeks, eating too much salt, having a carb up day) There is nothing that we can be certain about the exact reason or breakdown of that 5lbs, there is nothing to drive yourself crazy over, and it's an unhealthy fixation to have. Weigh yourself daily and track the trend.1

Ovulation time, that is normal for a lot of us females to gain water weight then. It should come off towards the end of your TOM.2 -
I'll try that and see what happens, thanks for the reply!0

^^This. I'm a guy and I've seen ~ 5lbs up after a night at the pub. All afternoon and evening St Paddy's added ~2.5lbs, which I'm actually quite happy with. It is never a straight trend down.0 -

Ditto!
I had the trifecta of temporary weight gain this week. Muscle soreness, constipation and Mexican food Friday night. From Thursday morning through Saturday morning I saw steady weight gain, but it didn't alarm me because I knew I was within my calorie goal for the week. Today, Sunday morning, all that fluid retention was gone and I saw a new low weight. Stick to your goals and be persistent and weight loss will eventually follow.0 -
Have you seen a doctor for your digestion problems? You don't need to be "regular" as such. But too much constipation or diarrhea is not good for you.1
