Is it really important??....

Hi All
I just wanted some peoples intake on the importance of breakfast AND eating straight after a workout. I often read that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it must not be missed, eat within an hour of waking etc etc, however, although I do eat breakfast most days but usually not until around 3 hours of waking up, some days I just don’t fancy it! And on the days I don’t “fancy” it (like today) I’ve smashed my PT workout (as he puts it!). Of course its not something I do intentionally but if there are days where I don’t fancy eating breakfast is it really bad to miss it?
Also, after a workout whether it be a class or my PT session I don’t always fancy eating my lunch straight after it…I often read you must eat within an hour of a workout or straight after a work? Again, like today, I didn’t fancy my lunch as soon as I got back from the gym so I didn’t eat until approx. 45 minutes after my workout – does it really matter that I waited 45mins to eat or should I be aiming to eat my lunch sooner?
Thanks

Nutrient timing is not as important as some make it out to be. Many people find success training in a fasted state and/or practicing intermittent fasting. Do what works for you.2

Thank you! Thats really helpful!0

I agree that neither of these "rules" are true or useful.1

Breakfast being the most important meal of the day is a horrible old myth - put about by breakfast cereal manufacturers perhaps?
Maybe it was for my Grandfather's generation, long day of manual work with no break.,,,,,
No you don't have to eat within an hour of exercising - a silly gym myth.
Overall diet = very important.
Effective training routine = very important (if you have more than modest ambitions).
Meal timing = really unimportant unless you are training for a very extended duration (3hrs+) or training multiple times a day or you are truly an elite athlete working at the extremes of human performance.3 -

yep- it was like a kellogs thing to promote cereal.1 -
If you find yourself overeating later in the day because you skipped meals, then you should consider eating something light either in the morning or after your workout. If you don't have a problem with overeating out of hunger later in the day, then don't worry about it.1

I actually find I'm less hungry when I skip breakfast or have it later in the morning which is weird. Like on a day where I dont fancy breakfast as soon as I get to work (9amish) and I have a mid morning breakfast, workout at 12.30pm, have lunch around 2pmish then dinner is around 6.30pm, I feel satisfied all day0

The days when I do the most exercise, I always skip breakfast. That's just logistics.0

I prefer to run in the morning on an empty stomach so I don't need to worry about upset stomach or worse. I never skip breakfast after and by 9:30 I am eating my snack of almonds.0

Some people find that eating breakfast actually makes them hungrier the rest of the day.1

This is me. And, I have to eat something about an hour before I lift or else I'll bomb.0
