When measuring meat to count the calories do you measure it raw or cooked? For example: a 12 oz. steak--is that 12 oz cooked or raw?

I'm pretty sure raw...but I'm sure it can go either way. If you want to measure out some leftover steak from the fridge, I'm sure it won't make a difference.0

Unless you cooked it with oils and other things...make sure you add that in.0 -
I measure mine cooked.0

if it's really fatty, likely it'll be less when you cook it because the fat will be drained, like ground beef and bacon less once cooked. But when you pan fry it, of course you're adding a little more calories too. So I'd say a guess would be that it evens out.0

I always measure uncooked, but I have compared the too and I know at least for chicken breast it doesn't change too much.0

I've always been told that the measurement for meat is always when it's uncooked. and I'm sure that the calorie count has taken into account a possibly loss in calories due to shrinkage, or fat being drained off.0

When you are looking at nutritional information, with meats, 99.9% of the time that information is based on pre-cooked weights. Think about all the burger places, it's 1/4 lb pre-cooked weight. This means you need to weight and/or portion before you cook, then when you record also add in any additions you made.
Every once in a while some meats, maily sausages, will have pre-cooked and cooked nutrition information. But unless you are cutting off all visible fat and squishing out any of the juices I would not count on cooking to get rid of the calories.0 -

I do too, my dietician said I should aways measure it cooked, because it looses a lot of juices & such when cooking.0 -
i always measure uncooked - but I portion my meat out and then grill it and put it in the fridge or freezer for later. I always have the same portion size (100g of either chicken or steak) so I know that what I get out is 100g raw to enter into my diary.
Any 'scraps' that I have leftover go into my meal for that day so I know what I've measured and don't have to remember.0
