Hey all. I have a somewhat unusual story. I had been thin all my life until I was 21 years old. It seems like I gained the weight overnight. When I was in college, I rarely went out drinking and hardly ever ate fast food (once/twice per month). I truly have no idea where the weight came from. While I admit my eating habits are not great, they surely aren't terrible either. Unfortunately, I have a disorder called selective eating disorder. This physically prohibits me from eating any fruits or vegetables. Any attempt to eat these foods results in vomiting, 100% of the time. In an effort to limit the damage to my esophagus/teeth, I have obviously diminished my attempts at eating these foods. For me, this means a lot of plain grilled chicken, scrambled eggs, yogurt, quinoa, brown rice, and other bland foods. I get so horribly bored with all the choices I have since they are so limited. There are only so many ways to season grilled chicken. Also unfortunately for me, working out is a CHORE. I used to be a competitive gymnast, and I still do gymnastics occassionally, but last year I had 2 surgeries so I don't do as much. I am a preschool/prek teacher and I also coach gymnastics. I would say I have a moderately active lifestyle but I am still gaining weight. Any advice that's not "just suck it up and eat some vegetables" would be greatly appreciated. Trust me, if I could I would. Thanks for reading my novel!

As a newbie I can tell you that a balanced diet will help you. I started MFP many years ago, but I recently started to learn about macros and nutrition and that's has been helpful. If you have a list of the foods that you can eat then you will need to balance the protein, carbs, and fats you eat. That along some light exercise should help you control you weight. Maybe start with some light exercise like waking and build from there. Can you also find a nutritionist to help you create a balanced diet based on the foods you can eat? Sorry to hear about your health limitations. Good luck in your journey.

You can start by gathering some data, log how much you are eating, including weights, check total calories, that will give you an idea of what you need to change. Also if veggies are hidden, ie food processed to fine grain and incorporated into meatloaf for example do you have same reaction?

@pamfgil @MissyK222 @rixdigs23 I cannot incorporate any vegetables into my food. Any vegetable mixed in leaves the whole entire thing completely Inedible to me. It's both the texture and the taste. The second it's on my tongue I'm in for a bad time lol. It's like if I presented someone with a piece of chalk. Technically you know you can eat it, but seasoning it, changing it's form, etc, does NOT make you want to eat it. I think that's probably the best way to explain it because it is so odd. It's not that I will not-I truly can not in any way, shape, or form :(

@ABabilonia I would LOVE to find a nutritionist that would help me. I have yet to find one. Thank you for acknowledging it as a health limitation. It was officially classified as an eating disorder by the DSM back in 2013 I believe.

@adaytorememberr if this was classified as an illness in 2013 maybe there is some research or specialist available somewhere. Don't give up hope and keep looking. Maybe you can develop your own plan based on your food tolerance. Can you eat beef, lamb, or any other animal other than chicken?
