My motivation

I have always been overweight, it wasn't so bad in high school, but when I started college I gained some, then I got into a relationship and I got too comfortable. I hadn't weighed myself in months. My ex and I broke up and I the people I was interested in didn't seem to give me a 2nd glance, and I felt it had to do with my weight. I have never had an experience where I go out to a bar and someone comes up and talks to me, but it happens to all the thin girls all the time. I used to feel beautiful and then I just started to feel awful about myself. I stepped on a scale and I could have cried. I weighed 256 pounds. I had gained almost 60 pounds since high school. I knew right then that it was time to get healthy. I don't want to do it for other people, or to be more attractive, I want to do it for me. I started about 2 weeks ago, I went and bought all kinds of healthy foods and cut out pop. So far I have lost 10 pounds, I still have a long weight to go in my weight loss journey, but I'm proud to say that I'm making a great start! My fitness pal is the reason I have done so well, and I'm so thankful I found this app!

Great start. If you get this under control now hopefully you can avoid all the health problems US older users are facing.1

Good job on starting this journey. As I look at people that are over weight I can see the cumulative effect as they age. It can run the range and includes worn knees, worn hips, back pain, heart disease, blood pressure etc. I decided that I wasn't getting any younger and I committed to this. It will take time but if you stay on track you will be rewarded many times over.2

It's great to hear of your progress. I totally understand about getting comfortable and not looking at the scale. Then when you do,..yuck! I can't tell you how many times I've done this over the years. I am praying this will be the time I stick with it. I love MyFitnessPal. In the past, I would NOT make my food diary public, but I just decided today to make it public because it makes me feel more accountable. There may not be anybody who actually looks at it, but just knowing it's "out there" available to be seen, makes me more conscientious of it.2

Just Wish There Was Some Way To Imprint This On Young People! (Why is this capping everything?!) Too many people say "I do/don't do x [an unhealthy behavior] and I'm just fine. So nothing wrong with that." What they fail to understand is that it can take years for bad habits to noticeably catch up with you. Then one day they go to doc and find out they heart disease, diabetes, etc, and comw here asking how to fix it in 2 weeks.0
