You are assuming that the people on MFP have not tried them. What difference does it make whether one has or has not? Common sense says that fat burners do not work. Read the directions on the fat burner boxes. They all say they must be used with diet and exercise.3 -

The answer to the original question is that they don't work and are a complete waste of money.PaulaWallaDingDong wrote: »neviwill23 wrote: »@johnwelk your just fussing. People here want to see you succeed. But if you don't want to hear about "there is no magic pill," go ahead and act like you didn't learn anything here and have the thread deleted. Why would you want a fat burner supplement? The only thing required to lose weight is a calorie deficit.
Take your pick of fat burner supplements- any will work as long as you eat at a calorie deficit, but none will work if you don't eat at a calorie deficit.
They are a waste of money.Stating that you are better off not spending your money on an ineffective or dangerous product is a contribution.

Actually, you'd have the same results with just the diet and exercise.

No. Garcinia Cambogia is another in the long line of weight loss supplement scams. What created your weight loss was the "when combined with diet and exercise" part.
From examine.com, which is probably the most evidence-based, unbiased source for supplement information on the internet:...Studies in humans, for the most part, fail to replicate this; this may be related to less actual activity of de novo lipogenesis in humans and a much higher level in rats. Some isolated studies do note weight loss, but it appears to be quite variable and unreliable. Many studies also do report subjective appetite decrease, but tend to record dropout rates (how often people leave the study due to being unable to maintain the diet protocol) rather than food intake; even then the benefits are still unreliable and sometimes not present.
Although there is some limited potential for (-)-Hydroxycitric acid as a weight loss aid, the magnitude of effect is quite low (up to 2kg over 3 months) and the benefit is unreliable; making it hard to recommend this compound as a fat burner or anti-obesity agent.5 -
I get the desire to find something that will easily fix your current situation but at the end of the day calories in vs calories out will reign supreme. I haven't found a product that over-rides my calories in and I doubt that one exists. While it may seem that people are being negative in response to your topic, what they're really telling you is that in the long run weightloss is a matter of tracking what you're putting into your body and what you're expending. There isn't a quick fix that lasts in the long run.5

neviwill23 wrote: »So your saying fat burners don't help at all! How do you know? Did you try them
Because they have been proven ineffective. Most of them are just caffeine, which is a proven stimulant, but if you actually want to know the science behind this, look up the ingredients at www.examine.com . If fat buners were effective, more of us would be on them.2 -
As far as I am aware, there is only 1 "pill" that actually causes fat loss at an extremely accelerated rate and boosts TDEE by as much as 60%.
Unfortunately; it is literally poison, has a high risk of death, is a byproduct of explosives manufacture and as it is illegal (in all countries) there is no way to ensure what you get is what you want.
Stick to caffeine and good old hard work.5 -
I haven't ever tried any but with that being said....each discussion board post has a header of what someone is seeking to find out about if you don't have an answer to give or aren't seeking any advice why bother looking at the post. We all know about calorie deficit but some people may be looking for a little extra help.0

neviwill23 wrote: »So your saying fat burners don't help at all! How do you know? Did you try them
Sometimes you can either figure things out logically or do research to find out what you don't know instead of having to actually try it.
For example, I don't need to have jumped off a cliff to know that wouldn't end well, either.
And yes, fat burners are a hoax. At best they are a complete waste of money. At worst, they can do serious harm because they are marketed as supplements, and as such do not require meeting any quality standards as far as ingredients go.4 -
neviwill23 wrote: »Why are people being fussy? I asked a simple question. If you don't like fat burners that's ok. If I want to try wether they're natural or not then let me! If you don't have any suggestions on it please stop
On a public forum, you don't get to control the types of responses you get. If you are only looking for validation of what is frankly, a waste of money, an ineffective method, and something that could potentially be harmful - you will not get that here.
Personally I would rather people be honest with me and tell me something is a bad idea, saving me money, time, and frustration - rather than just telling me what I wanted to hear.

We have answers.....just not any that she is willing to hear.
Why post at all? Because someone peddling crap will come along to fleece her. Without people pointing out that there is no such thing as a "fat burner"......they will be free to sell, sell, sell.3 -
I've tried several and all they really do is make me feel sick. Some gave me an initial energy boost, but then I crashed really hard in the afternoon and just wanted to go to sleep. Others made my stomach hurt so bad I didn't WANT to eat, which I could see being "effective" as an appetite suppressant but clearly, no one wants to walk around feeling like they're going to vomit at any given moment. Plainly, I spent unnecessary dollars on ineffective products that made me feel ill when a calorie deficit and exercise is what is REALLY working.4
-
Does anyone here use fat burner supplements? Not anymore, they are a waste of money and some are harmful to your health.
If so, which ones do you use? I have tried a few on the shelves currently and a few that are no longer sold.
Prices? Doesn't matter as they were a waste of money.
Is working? BIG FAT NOPE!5 -

That "little extra help" DOESN'T EXIST IN "FAT BURNERS." That IS the answer.4 -
The only fat burner that works can cook your organs from the inside out in one bad dose and is illegal.4

neviwill23 wrote: »So your saying fat burners don't help at all! How do you know? Did you try them
Some may "work" temporarily. BUT......
1)Once you stop taking them and go back to your old ways you will be back to where you started. So it's either keep taking them long term (which I wouldn't, see #2) OR go searching for some other easy way.
2) Many of these types of things carry serious health risks, death included as one of those risks.
3) You may as well save that money and put it on a food scale and gym membership, maybe some workout clothes and shoes. Maybe a fitness tracker if your heart desires.
The fact is we didn't get to where we are by doing anything right, and unless a meaningful lifestyle change is implemented and committed to you will never see any permanent results no matter what pill, shake, herbal wrap, supplement, cleanse etc.. you use.1 -
neviwill23 wrote: »Does anyone here use fat burner supplements? If so, which ones do you use? Prices? Is working?
I use the best fat burner out there. It's absolutely amazing. Best part? It's free.
P.S. It's my body.
Use yours.
I know you feel like everyone here is just being a jerk to you but they really aren't. There isn't a single scientific study that proves that fat burners (especially the brands marketed by shows like Doctor Oz or online) work. If they did, they would be heavily prescribed to help with the obesity epidemic. There would not be 600+ lb people. Anything that you can buy to put in your body as a "fat burner" is more likely to harm you than it is to help you. If it does help, placebo effect. So much of being able to create a deficit is mental.
If you're having problems with appetite control, that's a whole other issue. There are absolutely medication/natural solutions that will help curb appetite making it easier for you to create a caloric deficit and lose weight.
We're just trying to encourage you to do actual research. So many people are telling you they're an awful idea and they don't work; would you have believed us if we supported you and gave you names? Why does only sharing your opinion make ours valid? Food for thought.
Good luck with your journey. I recommend a quick search with google scholar before you start downing "fat burners" though.7 -

I actually agree with this, but not all people know how to control their appetite to stick with the diet. What do you suggest in that case?

Honestly, you do have everything that you need to lose weight and fat. It will just take commitment, discipline, and getting your mental state in order. It is sooooooooooooooooooo simple to lose weight, but it's not easy -- because it will take changing up some shyt that you may not be used to. I have tried fat burners before, and they seemed to have helped...but if I am honest with myself, they helped because the day I started taking them, I was focused and I tightened my diet and I went HAM in the gym. But, those are the things you need (anyway) to lose weight. If you take fat burners and still eat crazy and don't work out, you will not get results.
So honestly, check and tighten up your diet. Eat foods that leaves you satisfied longer to allow you to better handle your diet. I weigh my food, I take a multi vitamin. I prep my lunch and healthy snacks to stay on track. I weight train and have upped my cardio. You can do it without the fat burners, and achieve great results....
Remember, Commitment, discipline, mental readiness! Now gooooooooooo get'em0 -

Largely, you would probably have to play with food combinations to see what would satiate you. Often increase in fiber and protein would take care of that. You can also increase volume foods (low sugar fruits/veggies, egg whites) and play around with macros. Also, not starting off with an aggressive weight loss goal is something I always recommend and sometime, I will figure out where people maintain first and then cut calories.
It's why dieting is hard, because you have to workout what jives best with you.2 -

Relying on an appetite suppressant is a crutch that doesn't teach a person how to actually find foods that satiate them. As @psuLemon said, the best approach is to play around with the foods a person eats until they find a balance between nutrition (macro and micro nutrients), satiety (filling), and enjoyment (helps with adherence). Going straight to a pill to help curb the appetite, is not a sustainable choice and does nothing for teaching long term healthy habits.1 -

It's just as easy to post here asking for that very advice as it is to post asking about fat burners. We are here to help! And I do hope the comments here help sway the original poster's mind in the right direction.0 -
