Anyone else find the "if every day were like today you would weigh..." comments depressing and discouraging? I've used this app so many times and always it predicts these wonderful changes that never occur. And yes I've been consistent and yes I've been honest. Here's a pic of my serving size vs. my step son who continues to lose weight despite being one of the most sedentary people I know. I consistently have between 9000 and 12000 steps a day, hike, run, lift and never eat more than 2000 calories at the most and I weight 220lbs. Wth.

I've learned that it's largely inaccurate, mainly because it's saying if you eat like that every single day for the entire five weeks. I just don't close my diary out anymore.0

You know there's no reason to push the button except to get that message so if it discourages you I would stop pushing it.
I would have lost so much weight I wouldn't even be here now if that prediction was correct! LOL - I'd have lost away to nothing!

It certainly is optimistic. I haven't properly tested it out though, as i won't eat exactly the same everyday for 5 straight weeks, nor will i burn the exact same calories .0

Same here. Log log log. No weight loss.0

I've actually considered doing just that, to see what happens. But then I realise what a boring pain in the butt it would be, and don't.0 -
I don't think I've closed my diary in almost two years.0

I think it would be bloody impossible! I could probably do 1 week, maybe 2, but not 5 straight weeks.0 -
Everytime I see it pop up I chuckle and think yup in my dreams maybe lol...Just from yesterday today there was a 7 pound difference! Lol0

I'm gonna be the only one, maybe, but here's my experience. I'm extremely consistent with my calories - generally within 50 calories of goal every day. At the end of the five weeks, I've always been right about where they said I would be, give or take a pound. But you'd have to be very consistent. It's just a prediction, not a promise. It would only be accurate if you actually ate that way every day for 5 weeks. You don't have to eat the same exact things, just the same calories.1

Hmm...I'm up for this challenge: eating exactly the same and exercising the same routine for 5 weeks. It's my first week, so I'll post the results after my 5th week. My current weight is 156 lbs. and I'm supposed to weigh 141 lbs. after 5 weeks. We shall see...1

Yeah, the "...if you ate like this for 5 weeks" never gave me true results. Just don't use it. It may proive valuble to some people but I've not found it helpful. I trust more inches lost that just number on the scale.
As for your son, he is male so he has more bmr than you, also you may be shorter than him so that can affect weightloss as well. There is a difference If I were 6ft tall and meager 5'4 like I am. Don't compare yourself to other people, we're all different and like different things.0 -

I find it motivating to help me stay on track!0

I would lose my mind if I had to eat and exercise the exact same way for five weeks straight.0

If MFP are going to put a message like that in, a better one would be, "If you ate like you have for the last 4 weeks, in another 4 weeks you'll weigh..." (once you've logged for 4 weeks, obviously).
