So today I went to the gym for the first time with my new Polar F6...I    it! It was amazing the difference between the machines and my HRM. I was burning way more than I thought I was before! Today I was so motivated by the numbers and actually SEEING my progress, I worked way harder. I burned 850 amazing calories today!!!!!! My HR was target and above the whole time, and it made me feel so good  I have never burned this many calories working out, my daily average is about 300. Time to change that :drinker:

That's fantastic! I want a Polar F6! I bought a cheap one that sucks. It won't register while I'm working out. I haven't used it since I first got it. Waste of money. I would recommend spending the money and getting one that actually works to everyone!

I love my polar F6 too!! It gives me that extra motivation to work out a bit longer, or run a bit harder. I don't work out at the gym anymore, but I remember when I used to, the calorie counts on most machines were very inaccurate... Just out of curiosity, what is your HR when you are working out majority of the time??

I am looking into buying one of these Polars. I checked out the website but I didn't get enough info about them. I want to make sure that when you where it, it tracks the calories you are burning? Please help me out with some info....thanks so much!
  • Wow! I feel like I need to get one because I can't trust what the machines say. Were you typing in your weight before and they were still wrong?! Bah! I wonder if i'm burning a lot more or less calories then it says!

    HELP!

I so want one!!!! My husband asked me what I wanted for Valentine's Day earlier... I told him I want a Polar F6. He thinks it's crazy... but if it's what I really want, then he'll get it. lol

Oh it has EVERTHING, it tells you your heart rate, the duration of working out, calories burned, what percent your heart rate is at and where it should be while working out to help you burn the most fat and calories. It also stores all this history in files, so you can go back and look at them. I love mine, and I highly recommend it :flowerforyou:
  • I have an old polar monitor I use for the gym. I'd much rather be outside. So I am in love with my garmin that I can take from my bike to my run and know my mileage=)

Yup typing in my age and weight, still wrong. It's neat because as your working out the machine will sync up to the polar f6. Plus, the F6 is coded so there will be no interference from other monitors.

I KNOW! I just got mine on Wed, used it thursday at circuit - loved it. I'm going to the gym in about 15-30 min and I can't wait to see what it says. I'm going to do a boot camp class - should be interesting to see how many calories I burn because I usually die in that class (and I've been working out for years - running, weights, circuit classes, etc). I just hope the novelty doesn't wear off. The only bad thing is that I have to get used to wearing a watch while I work out. I so don't love that!

Haha I had the same experience with mine!

I now workout harder and more efficiently because I know exactly how much I'm doing. It really was the best investment I've made. It completely changed the way I workout.

    Keep it up, girl!

does anybody have a SPORTLINE FITNESS WATCH??? I have just picked one up at Kmart--$32 a few minutes ago
it says it's a "full fitness" watch---HRM and tracks calories "based on activity"

    That polar thing is EXPENSIVE

Prayerfulmom, I have a Garmin too. But I would say I run on the treadmill at the gym a lot more than I do outside, especially in the winter when it is usually dark. So I often wish I had a polar too. Running can be expensive!! LOL

    1. I loathe the treadmill. I appreciate it on long runs when its raining. But 1 hour or less I'll just run in the dark and rain. (glad I don't live where it snows).

    2. I think I need every geeky gadget know to fitness causing my habits to be more expensive:tongue:

what about when your strength training? does the polar monitor that as well?
  • what about when your strength training? does the polar monitor that as well?

Definately  And it's awesome too because it's very different from MFP, I find that I burn more when I'm strength training than what MFP accounted for.
  • got my new heart rate monitor and funnily enuff for my stair running sessions (5 repeats of 5 sets of 55 steps up and 55 steps down - yes i know all the fives) the correltion between my HRM 499 cals and the calculator here 520 cals is pretty good ..

anyone else have this experience - it seems rare here based on what i read

oh and hi from sydney australia

Hi there! Your definately warmer where you are than here  I was checking out what the gym machines said and it was about a 100 calorie difference for each one :noway:. So happy I bought a HRM. Did you enter weight and age into yours? The ones that I did had about a 50 cal difference, not as bad.
  • hi there - its sat morning here and already +30 degrees C which is i think approx 90F.
Am at work (sadly) for a few hours looking out my window at Opera House, Sydney Harbour bridge and harbour, which is nice... where abouts r u

yes put height weight and age into my HRM ..

was very surprised that the calc on this site corresponded so well thr the HRM ... very surprised indeed

Don't forget to subtract your resting heart rate from the total once you stop the HRM.

Mine is 50, so for every hour I work out, I subtract 50.

    :flowerforyou:
  • good point - thanks for the tip
