How do i start

I am 56 , I weigh 212LBS as of today ..... I cant seem to get started. I used to at least start a diet on Monday but for some reason I cant even get started anymore. I am in constant pain ( I am sure from being overweight) . I feel bad about myself, the way I feel the way I look the low energy ... I can't seem to figure out anymore to motivate myself to find a way to eat healthy and make the changes I need. Every time I do all the right things I feel so so much better, I can not for the life of me understand WHY in the world I am not doing it. I think part of it might be I am not sure what to eat . Can somebody give me some ideas what sort of a plan I could fallow? I know I need to make lifestyle changes but I know also for now I need to be able to fallow a plan I can stick with . How did you start, what made you stick with it and how did you stay focused ? HELP

Don't even think about eating healthy yet or changing any thing.
Just log what ever you eat for a week and then look at it. Could you have ate less chips to save a few calories? Could you have eaten more eggs to feel fuller etc?
If you can even just keep your calories at maintenance for a few weeks it will help you get used to a little less food.2 -

Definitely a great place to start. You first take a good look at where you are. Remember that every step in the right direction is a reason to feel good. Don't think of it as a diet, but a lifestyle. You can then decide what changes you can live with and begin adjusting as you can. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to do it all at once. Begin with logging, then adjust.
I would suggest adding friends with similar goals with open food journals so you can get ideas and ask questions.1 -
Maybe consider going to a workout group like spinning. Start weight training you'll improve bone health and metabolism. Take small steps and work your way up. Getting tested to see if something is off for aches and constant lack of energy. Plan your workouts sticking with a consistent routine can help ease your mind and stay on track. Sticking with a diet isn't sustainable it's really all on choices you make for a healthier lifestyle. Like switch sweets and desserts, sugary soda for fruit, yogurt and smoothies. Add lean proteins more veggies. Instead of frozen dinners loaded with sodium look up recipes and cook so you can plan healthy meals for the week.0

That is just it , I pretty much know what to do and not to do ...... knowing what is good and bad ....my problem is doing it . I know i feel so much better when i move more, when i eat right but yet .... i can't stop doing the wrong things. I wake up thinking ok i got this i will not make bad choices today . I get to work and someone brings cookies, a friend asks to go out and eat, my good intentions are out the window even though i know how bad it is and how much i will hurt. If i consume sugar my feet and legs swell up my hands hurt ..... but am i stopping ? heck now .... what is wrong with me ?0

I've had the same problem. It has taken me a number of false starts to build new habits. My best learned lesson has been to make small changes here and there over time. You can read my story here.

Have you tried preparing your meals for the week? I cook all my on Sunday then I just grab them when I need them during the week. Being able to not think about cooking healthy food everyday helps me stick to a diet. I've never made it past 2 weeks on a diet till I did this.2

You start now this instant. From now going forward you can not eat anything until you log it.
You set in your height and weight and you figure out goal calories. You just take these tiny steps and you eat well for today.0 -

There is nothing wrong with eating a cookie or going out to eat. You just need to make it fit your calories.
No food is good or bad it is the over all diet that is.

Don't expect to be perfect right from the start or really anytime during your journey, don't put that kind of pressure on yourself. Do the best you can and forgive yourself when you do less than your best. Forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability help me remain focused on my journey without all the negative self talk I used to use on myself. I own my actions, I own my choices, I own my wins and loses.1
