I'm cutting back on what I eat and I added a great ingredient to my diet. Coconut oil. Can it help with weight loss and how? I'm adding it to my detox teas every day.

Coconut oil is a healthy oil and has some good nutritional properties...it's not going to do anything for weight loss though. And, it's still 120 calories per Tbsp just like any other oil/fat.

    This.

I've been cooking with it a lot lately, but for weight loss it's no different than any other oil. I choose between it, olive oil, and butter based on the taste I want.

I think putting it in a drink sounds disgusting and is a waste of calories that could be used on something tasty, but I know some people like this awful bulletproof coffee thing. I enjoy eating breakfast and would just skip it if I were not hungry, but whatever suits personal preference. Just don't think it magically causes weight loss.

I am low carbing which can sometimes make you have low energy. I have found that pureMCT oil really helps with energy and feeling full. Plus helps me stay in ketosis. Add me as a friend please :)

Detox teas are a waste of money and do not work. Stop drinking them and throw them in the trash. It's all just fancy marketing.
Coconut oil is super high in calorie and doesn't contain a lot of nutrients. Why spend a ton of calories on it? Just eat lower calorie, nutrient dense foods to fill you up.

No opinion on what you choose to do as a grown person. However, I do remember there being some research around satiety where the subject was asked to ingest a small snack sized amount of a completely neutral tasting high calorie substance and one was oil (not sure if coconut or not). I think the effect was lowered the slim and that was supportive of weight loss. But I don't know the particulars. I suggest you read up and follow the research protocol if you are trying to achieve the same results. Best of luck!

Here is a link to one study, but fairly small. Should give you search terms for further research if you'd like. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2874191/

It can, but only with regards to what it replaces not in addition to. If one must use a saturated fat (or nearly so), an MCFA (medium chain fatty acid) coconut oil is about the best option there is. It, itself, metabolized more efficiently (faster than other fats, still slower than carbohydrates-- more like fiber) and, if I recall correctly, has a slight boost to GI speed overall while it is in system.

I prefer unrefined, except for topical (skin) use-- as an alternative to Body Glide (anti-chafing). Coconut oil also has mild antifungal, antimicrobial properties.

Coconut oil, when used sparingly in cooking, can be helpful with weight loss.... Just as any other food when used within your daily allotted calories. But, don't waste that many calories on drinking oil.... Need energy? Exercise, sleep right, or even take some B-12. Want to stay full? Eat more protein and/ or foods that help you feel full longer. Pick some yummy snacks. This drinking coconut oil thing and detox drinks are just another fad. Do something you can stick with and will do the rest of your life. This is a lifestyle change. Me personally? I'm saving those calories for something more appetizing.

Coconut oil is wonderful for skin, hair and baking, it doesn't assist in weight loss.

Coconut oil is still oil it's healthier than the other oils but it's still gives you a HA I'd say cut back on oils as much as possible like pan sear in water, bake, steam and microwave foods what's better is just getting your fats from veggies and avacados nuts

coconut oil has MCTs so its good for energy levels, but otherwise the only thing that really dictates your weight is calories in vs calories out. In other words, make sure you're logging it.

I have noticed from personal experience that it helps you in many other ways. For instance if you have legitimately diagnosed thyroid issue, and you start taking coconut oil daily (whether you cook with it or put it in your creamy coffee in the morning) it helps, and if you have hair loss from thyroid issues, within a few months, it grows back. But you have to watch your fat intake, because 1 tablespoon is close to your daily allowance or something like that.

I gained weight adding coconut oil to my foods(before I weighed my food), it also did not give me any energy either. it did nothing for me except to have the runs often.

I don't like detox teas. I tried it once and it came at the worst time ever! I was in the middle of my yoga class when it happened and I had to run out so fast!
