So I am going out to eat tonite for a friend's birthday @ a local restaurant and I don't want to blow all of my calories & then some. I was able to look up the menu online & I am wondering which is the healthier choice:

Blackened Chicken Sandwich

Cajun spiced chicken breast served on a kaiser bun with tarragon aioli served with crispy hashbrowns, add your choice of cheese. ( I would opt out of the cheese and substitute a salad for the hashbrowns).

Hummus Plate

Chickpeas and black bean hummus served by side with fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and toasted pita bread, our own tasty middle eastern fare, black bean hummus contains peanuts.

Ginny's Blue Cheese Salad

Bacon, gorgonzola, walnuts and red onion over mixed greens with a vinaigrette dressing (I love a good salad...and I love some good bacon, but....) HELP! What would you guys do?

I would go for Blackened chicken...
  • Probably the blackened chicken, and only eat half the bun like an open sandwich. The buns are usually large, and full of calories.
  • I would do the blackened chicken but no bun. Restaurant buns can be crazy calories (maybe substitute it for toasted wheat bread instead of a bun/roll).

You have to really watch out for salads since the dressings are killers. Sometimes if I order a salad I ask for oil, vinegar, and lemon on the side. I douse the salad in lemon, and add a tiny tiny but of oil and vinegar.

Also usually hummus and pita is a good choice but if they use peanuts in it that would ruin that idea.

    Have fun tonight :)
  • Thank you girls! :)

i would get the hummus plate
  • hummus for sure, the bun, aioli, cheese, hashbrowns on the sandwich!!! all that sounds pretty high cal. i know hummus can have quite a bit bc it is made with olive oil but the salad and fruit etc sounds much better. maybe you could get the chicken by ltself, not a sanwich and get the salad and fruit instead of hashbrowns??
