Water retention

I've been exercising everyday for the past week and a half and I have gained about 3-5 pounds, instead of loosing. I eat about 1200 calories everyday, which is my recommended daily calorie intake for weight loss. I was wondering if this could still be the result of water retention after 1 1/2 weeks or if I should be paying more attention to my calorie intake. I didn't exercise on a regular basis before starting to workout, I would do about 4h of medium volleyball training every week.

It is possible for it to still be from the exercise. The length of time you are affected by that varies from person to person. Some people see it go away quickly, for some it takes longer. You also will be affected by water weight fluctuations due to female hormonal shifts.

As it's been 1 1/2 weeks, sure it's possible. Make sure your logging is as accurate as you can, and keep at it! Remember that weight loss isn't lateral - as @jemhh said, you'll see fluctuations, especially when you last want it.

I started working out and logging again around March 6th...I saw very small losses up until this week...suddenly I've dropped 3lbs this week alone ....I only have 20lbs to lose so honestly I was not expecting that big of a drop in one week. It just took that long for my body to drop the water and show my real progress :)

It could easily be both. If you're not logging accurately you may be overeating. Tighten up your logging and keep at it for a few more weeks and you should be able to see if there is a longer downward trend.
