Oats with a tbsp of peanut butter and a fresh banana chopped in are amazing. My favorite breakfast. I call it Elvis Oatmeal.1

My Husband and I have oatmeal every weekday morning. The easiest way..... Buy an inexpensive rice cooker from Target, Walmart, etc.
Add 1 part Oldfashoned Oats, 1.5-2 parts water (or skim milk), pinch salt if desired (we dont use) and press cook.
We use water at 1.5 parts, and add a chopped apple or pear (with skin on) prior to cooking, and sprinkle with flax seed after cooked.
If you prefer berries or nuts, I would add after cooked. If you prefer dried fruit, add before cooking.
We love this, becuase you hit cook, walk away and come back 10 min later (after showering, etc.) and breakfast is ready.
Good Luck.3 -
i cook the oats as directed. While they are cooking, I chop a whole apple, sprinkle it with cinnamon and salt. Once oats are cooked, add the apple and cook a bit longer until they are a bit soft. Add 13 grams of brown sugar. Total yum. Its really more apple than oats but super filling.1

I don't cook my oats. I just mix them in with my greek yogurt along with a few other things.
The internet is filled with recipes for overnight oats...no cooking involved. Just mix with whatever you want the night before.4 -

Technically old fashioned & instant oats are pre-cooked. They are steamed and then rolled.
OP - I like instant steel cut (cooked 5 minutes) they I add powdered peanut butter and sweeten with some maple syrup.3 -

This looks yummy. One question though - 1 cup of (dry) steel cut oats is 4 servings.....should this be 1/4 cup, are the oats cooked first?1 -
I really like cooked oats with lightly cooked apples in cinnamon and/or apple juice/honey. Throw in some berries, flax or chia seeds and maybe some extra cinnamon or nutmeg into the cooked oats. Delicious!
And I'm of the other side: I can't stand cold, refrigerated oats (overnight oats). They just are so gross to me.
Pinterest is your best friend for oatmeal ideas. They even have a few savory recipes that aren't sweet and pair well with eggs/bacon/veggies that I want to give a try.1 -
I use quick cook oats. 1 part oatmeal to 2 parts water, plus a little extra water, bring water to a boil, dissolve a teaspoon of salt in it, add oats, add some raisins for sweetness and flavor. I don't add any other sugar, then I have it with a little milk like cereal.1

1 cup milk, 0.25 cups of steel cut oats, REAL maple syrup or honey (1 tablespoon), cinnamon, fruit (berries or mango are my favorite), and nut pieces (almond, walnut, pecan, etc). Cook as directed.
This breakfast will fill you up for hours.....1 -
