Anyone get a "lump" in your throat feeling?

This may or may not have to do with my new eating habits, I don't know... But for a week now, I've had this "lump" in my throat feeling, as if I'm trying to suppress crying. It comes and goes at random times during the day and sometimes it stays for 30 minutes, sometimes several hours... and then it just disappears for a while. It's almost like acid reflux, but without any acid... and if I press on my diaphragm, the "lump" feeling gets much more intense. Sometimes it makes me want to gag. There isn't a physical lump that I can feel in my neck or anything. Has anyone experienced this?

Funny that you mention this. I just got scoped last week due to similar issues, and was found to have eosinophilic esophagitis.

You should consider getting scoped and consider trying to eliminate food groups to identify triggers.

It is not fun, I hope you do not have this!

Have you had your thyroid checked? This happens to me once in a while, but I also have nodules on my thyroid. I do have pronounced swelling in my neck on the side the nodules are on that changes size depending on how much fluid is in them. Maybe you have a nodule?
  • Sounds to me like what happens when my acid reflux acts up.

oh yes... i had this when I had GERD. It's called a Globus Sensation or Globus Reaction. You should definitely have it looked at by an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist cause it can lead to problems later if left untreated.

    Good luck

I had the sensation of a lump in my throat when I started to get increased anxiety which then grew into panic attacks. Not the end of the world, but maybe see if you can think about somethings that may be causing stress. I refused to admit that I was under stress, because I was a capable, strong woman...but apparently even strong chicks need to take care of their mental health as well as their physical health. Journal when it's happening and what you were doing previously maybe you'll see a pattern? Or not?

Have you strained your neck at the gym? I had a similar feeling, back when I was a regular gym goer, and it turned out to be my crunch technique had pulled a muscle!
