I prefer to call it a splurge meal. I eat pretty low during the week and then have a little splurge on the weekend. Sometimes it's a dinner out, sometimes a little more dessert than normal and other times it's a couple of glasses of wine.
I don't go crazy and eat everything in sight and ruin my weekly deficit. I spent last year maintaining a 55 lb weight loss and then this year decided to go for the last 20 lbs..........lost 10 so far.
Others prefer to add their little treats into their daily calorie goals and eat a bit more every day.
I definitely don't like the work "cheat" though. We're not cheating we're being sensible, confident and determined!1 -
I gave up on the idea of cheat meals and days as they were enough to derail or slow my progress. Not worth it. I eat everything that I like within my calories with a main focus on protein and micros.1

Overeating once in a while won't kill you, but it is best to try to avoid doing so.1
