edited September 30 in Motivation and Support
This thread is only open for a little longer than a week. After August 1, we will mark this group as "closed". We only want serious players who will be communicate regularly and offer support and motivation. That's why we're all here, right? We've had a few passerbys, but we want to keep this group close knit.
Last week's thread was not that long. Although I wanted a small group, I hope everyone is able to complete the challenges and weigh ins on a regular basis. This group can only be as successful as the participation of its members.

Previous week can be found here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/291203-class-sass-and-bad-*kitten*-week-3

in case you missed it, here's the format for weigh ins.

We will still weigh in weekly on Fridays with this format

    Start weight: ###
    July goal wt: ###
    July 1: ### (+/- #)
    July 8: ### (+/- #)
    July 15:### (+/- #)
    July 22: ### (+/- #)
July 29: TBA (+/- previous week)

of course remove the ### and replace them with your actual numbers. It should be easier to find now that we're doing a new board each week. But if you want to add it to your signature, that's fine too

Thanks everyone for the ideas for this week's challenge: (July 22- July 28)

Exercise challenge, it's all about arms! Getting tank top ready as we are in the heart of the summer and our arms are more exposed now than ever. We agreed to do them every other day to have a rest day in between.
    1. Push ups: Reg, girlie, inclined (like on the stair case or weight bench), up against a wall. However you do them! You set the number that you want as your goal.
    2. Tricep dips (or kickbacks)
    3. bicep curls

    Food challenges
    1. name our biggest weakness (or two) and agree to stay strong for a week. (thanks Suzzanne!)

    Good Morning Everyone :)
My scale didn't change and I'm estactic. I have had a rough week. I had a few days I was a lil over on calories and a few days where I was so emotionally distraught that I couldn't eat 900 cal.
I have only been exercising routinely once a week. But I'm actually proud of that since my exercise before this month was very sporadic.

I would love to say that I am going to meet the challenges of this week but its really not likely. I will however try to do the challenge exercises at least twice a week.
I have really enjoyed this group this month I love seeing you all challenge yourself and acheive your goals, it inspires me to keep it going!

So, I am going to be realistic with myself!
    Goals for this last week
lose a total of 5 lbs for the month of July ( slow and steady keeps it off right?!) only 3.5 to go
bump up exercise to routinely complete twice a week.

Salt is my worst enemy, so I will try to decrease the salty snacks and keep my water intake up around 12 cups a day.

Start weight: 225 lb starting MFP on 01/09/11
July goal wt: lose 10 lbs
    July 1: 190.5 lbs
    July 8: 192lbs (+1.5 lbs)
    July 15:188.5 lbs (- 3.5 lbs)
    July 22: 188.5 lbs (+/- 0) No change :(
July 29: TBA (+/- previous week)

    Start weight: 122.2
    July goal wt: 115
    July 1: 122.2
    July 8: 121.1 (-1.1)
    July 15: 121.0 (-.1)
    July 22: 120.9 (-.1)
July 29: TBA (+/- previous week)

Nothing too exciting for me again this week. However, no matter what the scale says, I know my body is changing. My clothes are getting looser. I'm just about ready to go down a size. And I lost 6 inches. Maybe next week will show on the scale.

    Challenges
My exercise challenges: (July 22- July 28)
Push ups: I'm going to stick to the plan on the 100 pushups site daily.
    Tricep dips: #/108 (36 - 3 days a week)
    biceps: #/108 (36 - 3 days a week
    Food: ice cream
  • No change this weigh in, but that's okay, because the past few days (and the next few as well) have not been as good as they need to be. I intentionally gave myself and "off day" yesterday because of my bad ankle, but I'm going to have to have one again today as well because of my work schedule. My "real life" is fixing to get kind of busy and stressful, so I'm just going to have to do my best to stay on track, even though I might not feel like I can do it, physically or emotionally.

Down 2 lbs this week, but I think it may be water weight cause I've been sick. With the heat soaring I have to start getting motivated to exercise again.

Garrett, you can do it! We're cheering you on here.

Ally, way to go with the 2 lb loss! Maybe your body just needed the break.

Jodie, great job on maintaining.I know you can lose those pounds. We just have to stay focused. Sodium does play a large part in how our bodies retain water. We'll be here to cheer you on. I'm glad you're enjoying the group. Even though I haven't been losing, it is def. keeping me more focused than I have been in a while.

Suzzanne, I feel the same way. I feel stronger, my clothes fit great. It even looks like my tummy is finally shrinking some. I just wish it would reflect on the scale.

Garrett, great job on staying the same. Hopefully the food challenge will help us all this week. It could make the difference between a gain or a loss!

Ally, awesome job lossing 2 pounds! I feel the same way with staying motivated to workout when its so hot. I have been drinking tons of water though. I think that helped a lot.

Still closing the kitchen at 9 and also still trying to reinvent fruits and vegetables from the previous challenges.
Thanks everyone for checking in. Going to post a reminder in the news feed, although the day is still early.

So since I'm a newbie in the groups, I'm assuming that this thread will be done next week. Are we planning on continuing the group with new challenges into August? I'm loving this small group size. Its like we are really getting to know each other and our struggles. It helps me know that I'm not alone in this battle.

you're not a newbie. you've been with us from the beginning. but we didn't have a name. the first thread was getting too long and too hard to navigate through all the pages to find the challenges and weigh is and comments. so every friday, there will be a new link. I would love for it to continue through August and beyond. I hope we can all continue to challenge ourselves and each other in new ways. We're all creative enough to keep coming up with challenge ideas. And even once we get to our goal weights, it will be about maintaining or getting stronger or leaner. It's never really been about the weight since its not the most accurate way to measure your progress. I hope everyone will stay on board too!

jae, thanks for checking in! You have been so consistent with your weight loss. Its great that you are getting so close to your July weight loss goal.

I def. missed the mark this month, but it has been filled with its share of highs and lows. I think the key for me is going to be to log everything. I was slacking on logging my food or thinking that I could just eye ball it and guesstimate my calories. but obviously that's not working for me!

Me too! But it's not from lack of logging or poor eating. I honestly don't think I could have changed anything in food or exercise. It's just the way it is this month. Eventually, these little tenth of a pound losses will add up and I'll get where I'd like to be. I'm too stubborn to throw in the towel but it does irritate me a little.

Leela, you've had a tough couple weeks and your thoughts have been focused elsewhere. All in all, you're down for the month and we still have a week to go. That is really good.

Jae, CONGRATS to you! You are doing so well.

Jodie, I hope everyone stays with the group. I feel like I'm just getting to know you all. It would be a shame to break us up now. :) Whether you realize it or not, you all have helped me stay accountable in my exercise and pushed me a little further. Since I started running again in June after my semester long break, I've had a hard time getting my running base back up beyond 3 miles. With you all behind me, I'm at 5.2 miles as of today and I'm shooting for 6 next week. You all have been such an inspiration.

And with those remarks on accountability, for a couple weeks now, I have set aside today to be my eat-anything-I want-as-long-as-its-reasonably-portioned day. I will stay away from ice cream to keep with our challenge (and I don't want it anyway! ;-) ). However, if you look at my food diary, you're going to see a green chili cheeseburger logged for dinner tonight and I don't care. Hahaha. I've been looking forward to that all week. I'm not eating french fries, just a salad with it, but there it is in all its fatty goodness. I am going to enjoy every bite. :-D
  • I ran today guys! First attempt at exercise all week (ashamed, I know), but this has just been the most stressful week - all kinds of personal things going on. Not that I'm trying to make excuses! I got out there and did it today though, even though its 70% humidity and 85F. I went a mile in 11:30 flat, which is FINE by me.

I'm trying to stay positive, but the last few weeks have not been easy. I've come to terms with the fact that I am not going to make my goal weight for the month (130lbs) but I'd love to be as close to that as possible (hmmm, maybe 132?) Thanks so much for all your support!

It's seems everyone did so good this week, even if it was just maintaining! I always find it hard to lose weight in the summer since ther are so many challenges, like bbqs, etc. I'll be facing the big challenge of eating while on vacation soon, but really want tomstay on track. I hope this group does continue through August as it's been really helpful.

I'm facing a new challenge this week besides the no sweets ( 1 day down, 6 to go!) I finally went to the do tor today & my cold has turned into bronchitis, so so major exercise for at least a week. But I am going to try to stick to the weight training challenge, as I want my good tank top arms & I think I can handle it!

Garrett, GO YOU! Good job on the run. You are more dedicated than I. I cannot run in that kind of heat. If I don't get out early enough before the temps are too high, then I run the treadmill. I'm with you on the goal weight ... I'm not going to make mine either. We'll just have to take what we get, right? You are making progress so no need to feel poorly.

Ally, sorry to hear that about bronchitis. Take care of yourself!

I hope you feel better soon Ally, summer colds/ bronchitis are the worst!!
  • I'm here! In the loosest sense of the word, haha. I did 20 minutes on the treadmill - didn't even burn 100 calories, ew. But at least I'm taking the steps to getting back on track. Should be going running tonight after I get back from dinner with my boyfriend.

I'm doing great with the arm challenges. sorry I haven't been on much, but I am still keeping up with the push ups and tricep dips. I need to do some bicep curls, if not tonight, tomorrow.
There's a lot going on in my life. But I have to keep focus and keep the faith!

Not ready for weigh in since I haven't been up to the exercise challenges this week. BUT I did manage to keep to no sweets, which was especially hard since today was 2 for 1 day at the ice cream shop. I also went for a slow walk on the beach today. It's not much exercise, but it's my first in about a week, so I'll take it!

My exercise challenges: (July 22- July 28)
    Push ups: 65/80 (20- 4 days a week)
    Tricep dips: 40/60 (15- 4 days a week)
    biceps: 30/100 (25- 4 days a week)
    My food challenges:
sweet and salty. (chips, popcorn, chocolate, ice cream. Those have been my enemy lately)
I have been doing good this week, after coming off a not so good weekend.

So tomorrow I will do the rest of the push ups and tricep dips. I will try to do as many bicep curls as I can. It will be hard as tomorrow is the last day of the week.

That reminds me, its time to start thinking of new challenges. I was wondering if everyone had a stability ball. I was going to try to find a stability ball workout online that we can aim to do 3 times a week. Or if anyone has specific moves that they would like to share. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I am not really looking forward to weighing it, but I am hoping to end the month on a high note. But there are so many variables and so many things that went wrong, I really don't see that happening.
