I am having trouble figuring out how to log in sushi rolls (a weekend treat!). Every place names the rolls something different. Any suggestions, please?

I know it sounds insane but.... one time I ordered my usual, Spicy Tuna. I literally dissected it on the plate and eyeballed as best I could and go from there. If you're going out for sushi... ENJOY IT!!!! I now opt for the hand rolls without rice and I feel like I'm not blowing my diet too bad.

it's hard to account for exactly how much rice/fish/spicy sauce/tempura batter is in any given sushi roll, but I think you could probably use the ingredients to find a reasonably similar entry in the standard rolls listed on MFP. For example, a roll with tempura something in it could be listed as one of the various crunchy or spider rolls, a roll with cream cheese can be logged as a philadelphia roll, a roll with fish, avocado and spicy mayo can be logged as a spicy tuna roll, and so on. for basic maki that are just fish/vegetable, nori and rice, the calorie counts listed here probably aren't too far off. If you're getting some big honkin deep fried cream cheese mayonnaise rolls, you might want to try logging it as "las vegas roll" - generally the fattiest and caloriest item on any given sushi menu.

Easy. Don't eat rolls. Eat a ton of sashimi and a some sushi.

But really. If you must. One roll should have about 1 cup of rice. Regardless if they cut it in 6 or 8 pieces. On MFP, most whole rolls are logged as 6 pieces. Give me a minute. I have a great article saved some where. For sashimi and sushi.

Here we go. So I verified most of common fish on MFP are very close to this article. What isn't consistent. Is the size of the slices served at restaurants. A slice of sashimi should be about 1 oz. And the slice over rice for sushi should be about a half oz. I find some places to be very stingy with their sashimi. And the suggestion for picking similar rolls from the post above is spot on.
