Hi everyone. I was curious how many people use all natural and homemade products? Suxh as soaps, lotions, lip balms food, cleaning products etc. I hear so many bad things about the ingredients that you find in store bought stuff that I am begining to worry. My family has a history of cnacer and I want to do what I can to avoid that being in my future. Please tell me what you do to stay green and healthy and how you do it. I have found some safe and natural soap and lotion recipes I am thinking of trying and I know I can get organic foods at the store. I would kust like to hear from people with their opinions an this. And if you can only change in small degrees at a time is it worth it? or do the changes need to be all at once to make a difference. Thank you all. Also do you think the harmful products can affect weight loss or gain?

I've only heard of exercise, sunblock and eating vegetables as a way to avoid cancer. Never heard of
    products that can cause it.

I make my own laundry soap and dishwasher detergent. It's easy and works as well, if not better, than store. It is also CHEAP!!! You can also make your own deodorant (not antiperspirant), soap and lotion. There are millions of recipes if you google it. Message me if you want my laundry soap or dishwasher detergent recipes.

As far as products go (skincare, body care, etc) parabens have been linked to cancer. This subject is definitely one up for debate, but as an esthetician and esthetics instructor, I always encourage paraben free product use. Using products that have a lot of antioxidant ingredients will help combat free radicals, which are know cancer causers. Without going too far in depth, the better quality ingredients, the better protection and care you will get for your skin. Products available through an esthetician or medical spa will generally be of a better grade to address those concerns. Sunscreen that provides a purely physical barrier (titanium oxide and zinc oxide) are the best. SPF 30-35 is excellent. Higher rated sunscreens do not equal better protection. On the contrary, most 35+ SPF are loaded with chemicals that can make skin more irritated and cause negative reactions. If you would like more specific information, feel free to message me. As far as food goes, I know preservatives have a strong link to cancer as well. A good rule of thumb for skincare and food is the cleaner the source, the less toxins involved. When it comes to reading labels for picking skin products as well as food, if I can't read it or don't know what it means, I don't want it on or in my body. I will say i do a lot of ingredient research, as it is part of my job, but i won't buy something unless i know what each ingredient does and where it comes from.
