First Time in a Long Time

Open Discussion: I would love to hear from both the men and women of MFP.

I have been out of the dating scene for a while and am a reserved person until I am comfortable around someone new. I am looking to try speed dating - at least once - and since I have never done anything like that before, I am curious to know what input you all have.

Ladies: What types of questions should I ask? What would be off limits?

Gents: What would you want a lady to ask you? What be off limits for you?

If online dating wasn't currently, 80% faux profiles (my estimate) generated by the companies themselves I'd agree; with you @Cutaway_Collar!

    Why not use an app??

Speed dating is not a good idea. You can run into top notch creepers who will follow you to the car.

There are creepers online just like in real life, but often times you don't know until it's too late. Besides, I haven't had any good or moderately decent experiences online thus far.

Duchess, I did it for 2-3 years.

    Gotta look past the fakes.

I said "currently" you haven't been single to, witness the decline since; then the rest're either narcissists, gross & a few were severely disabled (raises hand)! Basically they're only for, undesirables today!

I admit I went off the market in 2013. Tinder exploded shortly after...

But still it provides a good opportunity to know a lot a out the person before agreeing to meet. Easy to weed out mismatches.

True but the, mismatches're all of; them! Even the, undesirables won't date; each other!

Ask financial questions. Whether he has his kitten together or not. A man of modest income can still have his stuff together. My credit rating is in the mid 700s.
A man with poor financial management skills is trouble.

I perceive that, as a; gold digger interrogating!

I understand speed dating to be going to an event where you talk to a person for about 5 minutes before moving on to someone else. I wouldn't think you'd have time to get too deep into personal history. You just want to find out if you have something important to you in common I would think. Like if you absolutely love music or art find out right away if they like that too. If you are nature girl and prefer to live in the woods find out if they like doing outdoorsy stuff.

Ask stuff like the things on this list I guess-

If you are dating and you're over the age of 35, I think asking what the other person's 401K plan looks like is completely acceptable, and not gold digger-ish.

Wait, stop.... 401K is way too much for first date.

No way! That's a great pick up line!! "Hey, what's your 401K plan look like?"

I always ask if they have a yeast infection. There are a huge number of yeast infections in this county. Probably because we’re downriver from that old bread factory.

However 1, should've their; own finances & thus shouldn't be, seeking to; rely upon someone else's! I believe that it's acceptable to ask someone what they desire to accomplish with the remainder of their life, obviously that question's going to be an inquiry into what they're doing to achieve that; without getting into divulging specifics upon just a 1st date!

So your profile there was holding Tinder back?

This might be the most intelligent thing ever posted here.

I did speed dating one time like 8 years ago. You only get like 5-10 minutes, not a lot of time to delve in deep. Just ask the typical stuff, what do you do for a living, hobbies, etc. Talk about something that you love that is unique and interesting. Good luck!
