So is there a thing as too much protein. Hold on the poop talk I understand the danger of protein and the need for dynamite...Trust me on this one. But if that end is covered....didja like the pun? Can you consume too much protein in a day? I'm at 202 for today. Its all very healthy protein low in fat blah blah. So what's the verdict. Can you have too much protein? Or is there a downfall from eating a lot of protein?

That is a great question. I will get with the docs at work and get back to ya on that one.0

most body building websites will tell you 1-1.5 g/lb of body weight is required. i was surprised to find out MFP recommended about half that amount.
i find it helps me with recovery after workouts, but like anything else, moderation is key.0 -
i've looked (though not extremely hard) for this answer before, and i came to the conclusion that it's probably VERY hard to eat too much protein. I eat about 250-300g a day. I've only found a minimum.
also, i'd rather over eat protein than fat and carbs, so i guess it depends on how you look at it.0 -
There is no "too much protein"...that is, unless you're eating like 400-500g per day. That might be too much. Just make sure you're not going over your calories (unless you're trying to build muscle). Contrary to popular belief, the body CAN convert unused protein into body fat. My hubby strives for 200g/day and I strive for 135-175g/day.0

Yes, about a gram of protein for evry pound of your ideal weight. If you weigh 200lbs but want to be 165lbs then 165 g of protein is a good guideline. I just ignore the protein count on this website because it tends to be too low for putting on muscle mass.0

Just did some more research and it looks like unless you have kidney liver problems too much probably isn't an issue.0

I seem to be going about twice over lately. (Goal for today was 64 I ate 117) I will say I don't feel nearly as hungry as I used to when I wasn't focused on eating lean protein and eating it before I ate any other part of my meal. I saw someone say its ok to go over in protein and fiber but stay under on the others. So I haven't worried about it.0

Yeah mine was 202 today. I feel great. I really think it is helping me build muscle.0

I hit that limit quite often... I actually changed my stats to 55% protein instead of the default... long term, excessive amounts may be an issue for liver/kidney but in general....I think the answer is no0

For health reasons, my doctor has me on a low-carb diet where I get most of my energy from protein. I eat/drink at least 50 g protein every 3 hrs while I'm awake. So most days that's at least 350g. I feel wonderful, and have lost 30 lb. Granted, I'm a large woman, 5'10", but still...
I don't think most people need to worry about too much protein. Probably, most people don't get enough.0
