Hello everyone today is my first log in. I am training for a half marathon as well as my first bodybuilding figure fitness competition this coming up fall. The challenge for me will be is that I'm vegan. I said I wouldn't mind returning back to eating fish however the thought of that makes me sick. Because Veganism is a lifestyle I chosen to live and I don't want to go backwards. However I'm having a hard time with proteins. . Any suggestions I'll greatly appreciate especially doing bodybuilding.

I'm not vegan so apologies if these aren't suitable: quinoa, tofu, beans /pulses,nuts,nut butters,non-dairy milk, hemp? And tempeh, which I'd never heard of until recently but think it's similar to tofu.
  • Soya beans, other beans, tofu, tempeh, pea protein shakes, nuts and peanut butter were protein sources I ate when I was vegan a few years back, it may not be enough protein for bodybuilding though, unless you eat a lot of it..

I've found broccoli, mushrooms, lentils, split peas, quinoa, and spinach all have helped me increase my daily amount of protein alongside tofu, beans, and tempeh. You might also look into vegan protein shake supplements to help get that extra protein boost after your workouts!

I'm a vegetarian, but I like hemp protein powder run through my blender with 8 oz healthy greens V8 and a frozen banana (or other fruit). I also use Slimfast Advanced Nutrition power and almond milk after working out. However, I don't know if Slimfast is vegan or not. Quorn products are spendy, but delicious sources of soy and gluten free protein

Hemp protein would be really good to add. I don't monitor my protein but I find that adding hemp protein powder to my fruit smoothies a few times a week helps.

    I'm also predominantly plant based.

i went vegan for the 40 days of lent and had the same problem..All the items mentioned above i used but most of them were high in carbs..I bought Lifetime Vegan max protein supplement and drank those..I got the vanilla flavor.. IMO its a very hard lifestyle to do body building and be vegan.. Im going back to meat, fish and eggs on Easter Sunday.
There are some pro vegan body builders you can Google there diets..

I eat a ton of Seitan, and add in other things throughout the day when they sound good (beans, legumes, tofu occasionally). I make my own with nutritional yeast and tons of seasonings and it goes with just about anything.

It also helps sometimes to have a good protein shake mix for when you're feeling lazy or need a recovery drink. I've used both Vega Greens and Protein and Frutein at different points and liked them ok.

Lots of vegan athletes out there now, so it's totally doable!
