Weight loss struggle

Hi...I started working out a month ago...5 days per week (45 minutes per day) in addition to keeping track of daily calories. I've been averaging about a 500 calorie deficit per day. I have been careful not to eat fried foods, sweets, etc. One month later, I'm 3 lbs heavier than when I started, and barely lost half a size. I'm so frustrated because I've been working so hard to burn all this fat I'm carrying around, but I'm not making as much progress as I had hoped. I understand that weight loss (like weight gain) doesn't happen overnight, but I feel like I should have been able to gone down at least one size. What am I doing wrong?

How often are you weighing? Weight loss isn't linear and water weight fluctuations could account for some of the variation.

This chart has some good advice:

How are you calculating your workout burn? Are you weighing your food?

If you're heavier and lost some size the scale isn't telling you the full story, keep track of your measurements

Muscle weighs more than fat so if you can tell by your clothes that your smaller don't get discouraged.

Probably not much. In one month.. I lost 4lbs, lost 1.5 inches off my waist, an inch off my hips.. and still the same size just not as tight. After two months.. I lost a total of 9lbs, 2 inches off my waist, 1 inch off my hips and still the same size. Now after 3 months.. I've lost 13lbs and I'm finally seeing clothes that I own that are getting too big, and can fit into the next size down, but still find them a bit too tight to wear comfortably.

So three months of steady weightloss and still haven't shrunk a full size yet.
