I ate about 220 grams of carbs 1450 calories...I will burn about 500 calories by walking 7 miles ...can that undo the over load of carbs? I seem to be binging every 2 days but hoping to walk more and burn 1/2 of the calories that I eat.

Is it okay to burn 1/2 the amount of calories that you ate .i.e eat 1000 burn 500.

Thanks

If you are still in a deficit, you won't gain fat. You may gain some water weight due to extra glycogen in your system.

If you are binging every 2 days, then you are most likely restricting too hard. Try to find a balance.

You shouldn't try to burn off everything you ate because your body needs the fuel from the calories to survive. That's why MFP recommends you eat your exercise calories back - while the output may be overestimated so start with eating half back. If you burned 500 calories, eat 250 back.

Edited to Add: Took a look at your diary...you may want to eat more protein as it helps with satiety and prevents muscle loss as you lose weight.

Did you go 1,450 calories over your goal? Or did you just eat a lot of carbohydrates in the context of being at your calorie goal?

If it's the latter, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Also, you're burning calories just from living. You do not need to intentionally exercise to burn half of what you eat. You're burning calories even when you're sleeping.

I'm not trying to be rude but that does't sound right.

You can only really gain five pounds if you ate an extraordinary amount of food. Otherwise you're just retaining some water.

since I have been binging every 2 days I am sure I have been eating more than usual. When I binge I don't log (trying to get better at it) yesterday I did will and logged and walked today ate horrible still logged and worked out! I guess that's an improvement.

It's probably the binges that are contributing to your weight gain -- not the days when you happen to eat over 1,000 calories (lower than what is recommended for women).

Even so, I have to agree with @MeganAM89 You would have to be eating tremendous amounts of food during your binges to put on 5 lbs of body fat. I am seconding the notion of a lot of water retention.

You might want to look into WHY you are binging? Then you can try to stop it before it starts.

The binge-restrict cycle is real and it usually happens when you've restricted too much and then go crazy because you've banned certain foods.

I get that vegetarians have a harder time getting protein than meat-eaters, but it's not impossible. Look into protein powders if you need to, but you can find protein in legumes, eggs, and dairy.

5 pounds of fat gain would be 17,500 calories over maintenance (5 x 3,500). So lets say your BMR = 1,000 calories (really low unless you are extremely petite or have medical issues).

If you were sedentary then your TDEE would be (1.2 x 1,000) = 1,200 (again abnormally low).

A 5 pound (fat) gain would require eating 3,700 calories every day for a week (17,500 / 7 = 2500 + 1200) ......so it's not 5 pounds of fat. Not at all possible unless you are way over eating.

I would say that if you are eating 1000 calories and burning 500(netting 500) then that is the reason for the binges.50g of protein is also really low. I agree with a few others.if you are gaining true weight(fat) its due to the binges and not the days you are eating so little.

I wouldn't be surpised if I did that 2 or 3 times a week !! Hoping to get better at it!

My BMR is about 1000 due to kidney issues and I try to walk 3 miles a day this week my goal is 6 miles a day! Trying to get things back in order. I ate 1455 calories but burned 440 calories by walking 6 miles already today

You aren't considering 1450 calories a binge day, right? I just want to make sure I am following. When you refer to binging every 2 days, you are eating more than 1450 calories?

220 x 5 is 880 calories. And that would be a no on burning half of what you eat unless what you eat is well over 2300 calories.
