I know that being under stress can keep one from losing weight. In fact, it can CAUSE belly fat !!! So, just what advice can you give for those going through rough times? So many of us are having trouble financially and I think that is probably the biggest stress for most of us. What do we do when only a glass of wine or a bowl of ice cream is what we want? What about when we get so depressed that the thought of moving our bodies is just too overwhelming?

  • You just have to tell yourself you don't want to go back to where you started from. We all have those hard times when stress is just too much you want to eat. I go to the gym instead of picking up that piece of cake, or go for a walk to take my mind off of everything. it works great for me. Everyone is different, but you have to be strong and just keep going. You have lost 11 pounds which is a lot compared to some people who just make excuses and do nothing about their situation. Just keep on, keeping on and you good luck to you.

SHE IS RIGHT! Going for a relaxing walk (40 minutes to an hour) is one of the best exercises for getting rid of sweat and getting rid of fat without losing weight in muscles. I finding that I NEED a walk at least 5-6 times a week. Because it is so hot here I walk at dusk.

Good luck and congrats on losing weight!

I'm sorry you are going through a tough time. I, too, and going through some hard things, one of which is causing financial stress. One thing I do is make a plan. It's easier to stick with a plan that exists! I have a financial plan that includes grocery shopping, of course, and ice cream is not in the budget. That makes the eating part of the plan pretty darn simple!

Write down what you need to do. In writing it down, you are making decisions and putting them in front of yourself so that you have it to refer to. When you go shopping, your decision was already made and it's easier to just walk right past the junk food that would only get you in trouble at home, anyway. As far as moving goes, I have found that while I can't always expend the energy to exercise half an hour, I CAN get myself up for 10 minutes. And I can do that repeatedly. Give yourself small, attainable goals when the big one isn't attainable, and it isn't so difficult for the small goals to add up to that larger one, anyway.

And don't listen to people who tell you 10 minutes of exercise doesn't count! 10 minutes of moving vs. 10 minutes of not moving DOES make a difference. It adds up, and maybe it won't be the exact same burn calorie wise, but it is a far better burn than not doing it. Progress is progress - don't let anyone compare your progress or energy expenditure to theirs. Just keep making progress.

    You can do this!

Walks work for me... also music and pushing myself hard at the gym...

You have to always remember.. no matter what happens everything will be okay! You have had worst days and you are still here... and everything always, no matter what.. works out fine..

:flowerforyou: firesign...I love you. LOL. Your answer is what I have been thinking of.

EuroDriver...thank you. What you say is so true. I HAVE seen worse times. I guess that I am just not wanting to go through this at this time. I should just burn my bridges and get on with it. The future will be much better.
