NO potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, and *sad face* beer

Hi there,
On March 24th I went to the doctor for a sinus infection and left with a wake-up call. I weighed in at 198lbs, which was what I weighed before giving birth to my, now, 13-year-old daughter. I was so angry that I had let myself go, but it sparked a change deep within and on March 25th I cut out all potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, and (darnit) beer. I also began walking around 2 miles on my lunch break. I only weigh in on Fridays and as of last Friday (4-7-17), I was down 13 lbs in two weeks.
I have been an MFP member for a few years to log food but I’ve never attempted to be a part of the community. I’ve been trying to find a place where I can get support without calculating macros, counting carbs in raindrops that accidently pass my lips, and without being judged if I don’t buy low sugar ketchup. I am grateful that the people I surround myself with everyday support my decision 100%.
I haven’t been home in over 3 years but I am going home to see my family this July and I’d love to be in the 170’s or even upper 160’s. The fact that I strongly dislike the body I am currently in has made my willpower stronger than ever and I am able to help support others. Just looking for other members who are serious about losing weight, but may not follow all the rules along the way.
Edit: My phone screen saver displays the following inspirational message:
4 weeks for you to notice a change
8 weeks for your friends to notice
12 weeks for the world to notice
It takes one day to decide that you are enough.

I don't think I'd want to live in a world without bread, alcohol or pasta.
Good luck on your journey.10 -

Exactly. I eat the food I like, stay in a deficit and lose weight. Would not be sustainable for me if it was so hard. Life is too short to go without the things I love. IMHO.2 -
What is your maintenance strategy? Are you going to be eliminating those items forever, because weight loss is just the first step.
I've done elimination diets in the past.....but alas weight loss was always temporary for me. Good luck!2 -
I couldn't do that! I eat whatever I like but make it all fit in my goals. Whatever works for you, good but man, I couldn't do it.2

Thanks for asking. I plan to slowly incorporate these items back into my diet. I've never been fond of pasta or rice, but those potatoes had a death grip on my palate. I had a hard time with self-control before I gave up these things but hope that once I reach a weight where I feel comfortable, I'll be able to maintain the weight. My doctor is monitoring this with me.
I've been adding bread into my diet this week, but it's not going to be with every meal and every snack I have throughout the day anymore.0 -
Wait. There are carbs in raindrops?

Congrats on your weight loss. I've cut out pasta and rice, only because an actual serving size is so small, and I found an alternative for both which I can eat a lot of. But I eat all other carbs. Glad this is working for you. Keep up the good work!1

I've thought of that as well, but my willpower has (thankfully) been strong. My goal is in sight and I'm feeling better already. One day at at time1 -

I should've used my sarcasm font I visited a 'Keto support group' and realized I was out of the league. No offense, but those are some strong willed people. I want to be healthy, but I can't follow a plan that is too complicated.2 -
I have started doing the same thing Polish! I am glad there is someone else on this journey with me. Well there is only one thing that is different, I am still eating potatoes, but I am doing that because my doctor says my liver is kinda having a hard time right now. Potatoes with the skin on are a great source of fiber, and fiber helps flush and refurbish the liver, so about once a week I have a potato with the skins on just to boost my fiber for the day. It is actually not as hard as i thought it would be with the Bread, Rice, and Alcohol though. Especially thought the alcohol was gonna be rough, but its my liver so until I am better no alcohol for this guy regardless. Anyway I thought I would let you know you aren't alone, good luck to you! If you want you can add me and we can help motivate each other.1

We can do it!
My doctor told me to slowly start adding starchy veggies back into my diet. I miss those potatoes!
Beer was rough but when I look in the mirror I'm unhappy and that helps me get over the beer.0 -

I guess the bottom line is we all have to do what feels right for us. I, like others here, don't cut any food groups out. What MFP has done for me is to keep me accountable, and it has also been a real education - some foods just aren't worth it. If I want to have a glass of wine, I plan for it and workout that much harder. Congrats on the weight loss - keep up the great work!!3
