Wondering why I would be eating 1400 cal a day, seems like too much. I thought less than 1200 was ideal for weight loss. Anyone have any info? TIA

Why would less than 1200 be ideal when the minimum for a lady is 1200 calories??? Op, if you want some help providing more information will be great such as: gender, height, and weight
I'm not sure where you got 1400 calories from did you input your goal into MFP and receive this number? If so what goal did you input?1 -
No, less than 1200 is not ideal whatsoever or healthy.
What are your stats?
I lost weight eating 1700-1800 calories a day. I'm 5 ft 2.
He/she who gets to eat a goodly amount of calories and still loses, wins imo2 -
Yes, that is the number I got from putting in my stats. Female, 37, 5'6 223lbs wanting to lose 1.5, 2 lbs a week.0

Sorry, 2lbs a week1

Then 1400 even sounds low for you. As you lose weight you'll have to reduce yet more calories. If you eat too low now, then what?

If you're just starting off see how you manage 1600-1800 calories. Use a food scale, log every thing you eat. If you truly are eating those amount of calories you will see losses.
All the best.

1200 (minimum) is not ideal for everyone. I started out 25 pounds heavier than you, but because I have an active job I was give 1900 for 1.5 pounds/week. There are so many factors that go into the number you get.2

Hi!
I started around 270 and I think I was eating 1700-1800.
I'm down 85 lbs.
I tried 1200 and it just made me miserable
At 185 I eat about 14001 -
I'm 5"8 and currently 149lbs, started at 180ish. I have never had to go below 1600 calories to lose weight. Yes, i did try lower calorie goals to try and hasten the loss, but i could never stick to it. I will never, ever go as low as 1200 calories, i did try it once and lasted a whole 3 miserable days.1

I'm 5-7 and 149. I lose eating 1800 a day. There's absolutely no reason to white knuckle it at 1400 right now.1

I've been doing 1400 and it's been pretty good. Lost 2lbs 1st week. Weighing in again at the end of this week. Usually under calories after exercise. Haven't been hungry, as long as I am eating the right foods I can usually eat a good amount.0
