I weigh 190 and 5'9". I'm on my feet all day at work and hit the treadmill or elliptical everyday for 1/2 hour. Typically I hit 30000+ steps. I ate very unhealthy and use to drink a six pack a day. Trying for a new turnaround in life. I'm trying to be around 1200 calories. Is this a good calorie set point?

Any ideas are welcomed

1200 is way too low for a man, let alone one your height/size.

With so little to lose - I assume you don't want to lose that much - you should probably aim for a pound a week/half a pound a week. This means you have to be accurate (weighing etc).

But if you're drinking a six pack of beer a day, I'd also be addressing your issues with alcohol, too.

1500 minimum, and with your number of steps even that will be way too low

A new turnaround in life doesn't have to be from one extreme to another. Limiting your calories to such an extent will make you unhealthy in a different way! (I eat more as a 5ft 5 woman, doing less cardio based exercise)

Try a less drastic rate of loss, and give yourself a more realistic calorie goal for sustained, maintainable weight loss

I would say that you should at least set yours as slightly active, if you are tracking steps and notice you doing more certain days you should record that as exercise. I know with fitbit at least it syncs and gives you extra calories if you are doing more than normal. Calorie wise, I am not sure a good goal for you but 1,200 is definitely too low and would be a big challenge. Even as a small female I struggled with that number. Good luck!

You have an MFP profile. Fill it out properly with your height, weight, and non-exercise activity level. Eat that number of calories plus at least a portion of your exercise calories each day.

Alternatively, you could just eat more of a balanced diet while continuing not to drink and you'd likely drop weight quickly without counting calories at all.
